Well, after the Proboards server crash wiped this thread, I'd best start all over again!! OK (deap breath) the next Daf Owners Club gathering is the Autumn Frolic to be held on Sunday 26th September and is being held at Ipswich Transport Museum. It is being organised by John Smith of Harwich with assistance from Matt and this thread will be updated as we grow closer to the event. I'm told that it will be free to display our cars and, whilst entry to the museum itself is £4.50 each, there is scope for a discount if there are sufficient attendees. Now, that's the Autumn Frolic, so "what's the 'Essex Daf Spectacular'" I hear you ask. Well, the Ipswich Transport Museum is some 20.4 miles from Essex Daf Central in the rural outskirts of Colchester, a half hour drive. We realise that attendance for some may require a long journey and so we are able to assist with accomodation options. Matt's landlord, Farmer George, is allowing tents to be pitched at £5 per tent for those who would like to camp over on the Saturday night. Washroom facilities are...ahem...basic and better suited to male daffers at present, but we are looking into a Portaloo or some such. We also have running water and lights, yes we have electricity! ;D Even I, who hates camping, has just bought a pop up tent as I'm determined it'll be an enjoyable event. Mrs. G keeps saying she cannot believe I've bought one, so that's her entertainment sorted for the rest of the day! ;D There will be plenty of our reknown Essex tea and coffee, soft drinks and maybe even a cake or two. Not to mention a tour of the Essex Dafs Museum and parts store! The best thing is that you can have a leisurely journey on the Saturday and leave in convoy Sunday morning to arrive in good time for the 11am start. For those who haven't visited us yet, hop on board Laura and she'll show you the parking and camping spaces. For those who really don't want to camp, a stone's through from Essex Daf Central is a lovely B&B, The Old Courthouse Inn featuring both hot and cold running beer! We had a visiting Daffer stay there recently and he was treated very well. In fact he spent his evening playing pool with his host Vinney, for free! Rooms are £50 per night and again, there may be a discount for a group discount. Those staying at the B&B will be able to hook up with the convoy to the Ipswitch Transport Museum. The show ends at 4pm and then all are welcome, regardless of whether or not they were camping etc, to form a convoy back to Essex Daf Central for refrreshments, daf talk etc etc. So, sound good? Well there's more - we are possibly going to be joined by a mystery guest of honour, watch this space!! Well, since that post the following have signed up for camping: Joe (and Sian?) Paul Bashford Stef (and possibly Dafdaffer) Me The following has possibly signed up for The Old Courthouse Inn: A. Mysteryguestofhonour We're hoping to get something in the newsletter about both events so members may look out for that. All daffers are welcome at Essex Central, DOC or not. Please my fellow Daffing chums, there's lots to arrange so the sooner I know the numbers the easier it will be to arrange! Cheese, 33G. P.S. No, the mystery guest of honour is not Top Gear's the Stig!!

Tent for two please:) I've heard that the mystery guest is coming quite a long way. 325 miles is far enough for us, wouldn't fancy the drive from Scotland

A Mystery Guest? The Ghost of Henry Ford...perhaps? Someone from the vanDoorne family? Anyone have a clue It sounds like a wonderful event..too bad I could not drive over to attend. DAFs don't do well underwater from what I understand. John No, no and erm no. Good guesses though. I don't think the bodies are up for running underwater, they would soon fizz away. Not sure about the electrics either..... ;D Tent for two please:) I've heard that the mystery guest is coming quite a long way. 325 miles is far enough for us, wouldn't fancy the drive from Scotland Yep, a long distance traveller but not sure how they would respond to being labelled Scottish. Otherwise, . Those wanting tent pitches, great, we'll let Farmer George know. There's always time for others to book pitches, y'know. Should be a really great event, can't wait for it to come around.

Well, just to keep you all updated with developments on this event:- 1. Matt spoke with John Smith last night and it appears that the arrangements for the Ipswich Transport Museum are in full swing. Entrance to the museum itself will still be £4.50. We do have the possibility of putting on a club stand. Is anyone interested in us doing this? Naturally we don't have the associated paraphanalia down here. 2. Farmer George is discussing best site for the camping and presently it is likely to be the wooded area behind the farmhouse. I'll check this out soon, if not this Sunday then the following week and maybe shoot a little video to whet your whistles, fellow campers. It's all looking good though! 3. Matt is looking into a suitable Portaloo to hire, got to have these modern amenities for the laydees you know!! ;D 4. Our 'Possible Secret Mysterious Guest of Honour' has now confirmed attendence, so henceforth they shall be referred to as 'Secret Mysterious Guest of Honour'. I'm off for the next few days on hols and won't be home until the weekend, but plans are still progressing so worry not. Cheese, 33G.

Don't forget Mystery Guest Number 3... Paul Nieewenhuis has also confirmed attendance and will be travelling over from Wales for the weekend. Hopefully he will be doing a book signing, if he can be talked into it. John tell him I want a DAF convoy

Well Joe, as the saying goes, "ignorance is bliss"!! ;D Matt confirmed two bookings at The Old Courthouse Inn yesterday, and it transpires that there is only one further room available - we did say it books up quickly!! Worry ye not, fellow Daffers! There are other hotels / B&B in the area which we can book for others. There's only one that we have experience of, which family of Matt's partner have stayed in and they rated it well, I'll put details on here when I have them. Anywhere else we can't personally recommend as we have no experience of them, but we will get the details. We've also extended invitations to the othe Daf clubs on the continent. Given Colchester and Ipswich proximity to Harwich port (Hook of Holland ferry) we're hopeful of at least some Dutch Daffers attending. That's all for now, further details when I have them. Cheese, 33G

I hope to come to the museum during the day - but without Becky. It would be asking much too much of a 33, however big hearted, to tow our caravan to Suffolk even though it be a fairly light one! I happen to be on holiday in Glemsford at that time so will motor over to Ipswich in the Saab all being well. Does anyone have the address/post code of the museum for my sat-nav?

OK, more further updates on this forthcoming event. Our souvenirs turned up this week, they are looking good, no idea whether we have enough or too much. Hey ho. Farmer George was planning to give us the woods behind the farm house, primarily as our proposed site borders onto a neighbour which is a 'little old lady' type scenario. Now that he knows it is likely to be half a dozen tents and that there will be no rave parties, he has consented to the original site being the bee hive field (see the Laura video in the first posting for a drive through). Late September is not bee season so there's nothing to worry about there. In fact George got his tractor out and gave it a mowing today! We will hopefully have the Portaloo sorted out this week, it should be a chemical one that does not need power or running water connected to it. A torch will be provided for those who like to see what they are doing at night. ;D Do bring your washroom facilities. We will get some bowels that can hold cold water or hot water fromt he kettle. We can provide ladies and gent's wash barns, and a 'viewing step' will be available for hire outside the ladies' barn window for £1 per minute. ;D Please remember, that the Old Courthouse Inn is likely to be booked out by now, as at the time of confirming John and Dominique's booking there was only one room available for the Saturday night. There is other accomodation in the area which we are happy to book for those who would like to stay the Saturday and/or Sunday night. Finally, as we have Dominique from Les Dafistes attending, here's a little conversation peice I found on youtube earlier, enjoy!

I believe the show starts at 11am so you'll need to arrive early enough to find everybody else and park up. Matt is going to be speaking with John Smith in the next couple of days and check into the parking/club stand situation etc and I'll report back.
Otherwise you are welcome to come to Essex Central down the road in Colchester if you want to arrive at the show in convoy although naturally we will be leaving there a little bit earlier.

Well, Matt has now spoken with John Smith and we will be arriving at Ipswich Transport Museum at 11am, so the convoy will leave Essex Dafs at about 10:00 - 10:15am. I'm told parking will not be an issue, this is not a car show, more a meeting place for Daffers so will the emphasis will be on socialising which is great, because there will be our special guests of honour in attendance which I'm sure everybody will want to chat with. There will be some Joe Public there so putting up the banner to fly the flag for the DOC is no bad thing and gives late arrivals somewhere to aim for! Alex, you're more than welcome to join the convoy, the postcode for your routeplanner / satnav is CO7 7TP. Allow a little extra time and if you get lost them Colchester town has two train stations, head for either of them and call me*, you'll be met and escorted back to Essex Central. For those who use TomTom you should be fine. Those of you using a Becket satnav will be dumped at a petrol station in the middle of Colchester and told that you've reached your destination! ;D * I would ask those of you who are attending (and don't already have it) to take a note of my mobile number: 07778 861513. If you are meeting at Essex Central and are running late or lost or in a strange petrol station and can't see any Dafs then please call me!

;D ;D Thanks Paul, I would dearly like to know the final numbers but doubt that will happen. From what I can gauge on this forum most of the hardcore Daffers will be in attendance, but I have no way of ascertaining attendance for those who are not on the forum and have received invitation through the newsletter. Certainly nobody has contacted myself nor Matt on our mobile numbers nor on the Essex DAFs hotmail address. I guess that all we can do is publicise the event and hope for good attendance, the more the merrier. Otherwise people will be taking big chinks of cake home with them! ;D It would be good to have a round-up though. So far attendance is (in no particular order): Myself Matt Dan Andrew Stef Dafdaffer Onne Veeruk Drivenbyclassics Paul B Paul's mum The Bear Paul Newenhuis Dominique Jacson Specially appearing mystery guest number 3 Marcus Possibly Steve Bidwell Spunkeymonkey and Betty's keeper Roger & Tim Everit Eric Bhojani Howard Any other committee members who decide to support the event. If I've missed anyone then my humble apologies, please add your name to this thread.

Seeing that I need a bit of revitalisation on the DAF front, I shall be coming, come hell or high water Actually, that last part sounds like my workshop.... Stuff it, I'll be there. Won't be in a DAF though, sadly. I'll be taking the "Marcus" approach to motoring (a man of impeccable taste)! Planning on coming up Saturday afternoon from Bristol. If anyone needs any bits and pieces I'll happily bring 'em! I might bring a boot load of bits I no longer need in case anyone should want 'em!

Excellent news Howard, shall look forward to seeing you. Do let me know if you need help with booking accommodation. There's no room left at The Old Courthouse Inn, however there is another B&B close by, Ardleigh Guest House and you would not be the only Daffer there either!

I don't mind where I stay, but after all this poncing around Switzerland, and, especially if I come in the convertible, I shall need somewhere that is cravate-friendly, and somewhere where blazers with yacht-club badges are the norm.
Let's hope I can sneak in a bit of Leslie Phillips-esque fun, and work in the "I'm only trying to guess your weight" gag into the equation.....

My taste, Howard, is dictated on this occasion by the inability of Becky to tow my caravan; this is a task which is exclusively allocated to the Saab. Perhaps we might try to park ajacently in order to confuse the masses into thinking that the S.O.C. has a simultaneous function.

Are you bringing your caravan and stopping over Marcus?
Caravans shouldn't be a problem at Essex Central (so long as we know to expect them) and please note though that electricity and water are limited to the barns so you would not be able to plumb it in or switch it on, so to speak.

Ok, this thread has lost its sticky, so in a futile attempt at a bump and to hopefully generate some enthusiam...... The portaloo should be ordered tomorrow having canvassed all the local suppliers and plumping for the most reasonable (the most expensive being £170 +vat! ) This was one of Farmer George's conditions to enable us to hold the event. Needless to say he wants to ensure that anyone who needs to, erm, 'go' uses it. I know we have visitors and we tell them to 're-acquaint themselves with nature' however we normally have male visitors and not that many, so Farmer George doesn't want to see any holes being dug or his freshly harvested hay being watered so we must respect that. ;D Next subject on the agenda is smoking. You're free to do this and we aim to have some sand filled containers for extinguishing ciggies. Please no smoking in the barns (for obvious reasons) or in the museum and parts store. Although Matt's not a smoker and he is a tollerant chap, he does rent the barns and doesn't enjoy being around ciggies. Everywhere else is fine. Food. BBQs are fine and we have promised George that some rudimentary fire fighting equipment will be on hand (aka buckets filled with a mixture of sand and ciggie butts). Last but not least, BEER! Of course, you're welcome to drink, please remember that the camping boarders onto the garden of an elderly lady, so please no late night raves with the Marshall amps turned up to volume 11, and no midnight orgies! ;D I'm guessing that some might want to be partaking in liquid refreshments, the pub is a long stagger down dark country lanes so taxis or designated drivers may be in order. I'm sure that will all work itself out at the time. For security reasons the gate into the farm will be locked at night and re-opened in the morning. We now have some souvenirs for the event. Not knowing whether we would have 3 or 45 visitors makes it tricky to order ahead and suppliers need sufficient lead time. There's something for everyone but the best stuff is in short supply so first come first served, so to speak. Those who have already visited us will know we are quite laid back, easy going Daffers, we want to ensure all of our guests enjoy themselves. We have ways and means to make you have fun!! ;D Cheese, 33G

If everyone knows the score before the arrive then they can feel comfotable and at home and enjoy themselves even more. And thanks for the driving offer Paul. I'm sure Gladys will provide sterling service should people be wishing to have some sherbets at the Old Courthouse Inn - I know I will!
