Hi All...
Got to play a little more this weekend.... ;D

Some of the needed support beams were put in place today;

Here's a few less things I have to do later on. :D

The front end is begining to take shape.
I completed the left wing this weekend (lots of misc. holes to fill including the side mouldings, wing mirror & side light). The newer style 32/33 directional lights will be used on the Cabrio but I am also using a grille assembly from a DAF 600.
This should make the Cabriolet really different... ;D

The older style turnsignal hole (left) and the newer style (right). Had to use the "cut & paste" method because the DAF 32 grille angles don't match the 600 grille...but the DAF 30 ones did.

Stefan.....
You will like this :D

Today I only worked a 1/2 day so I raced to the workshop to weld up some more of the braces.

Here you see the completed rear bracing section which is located directly behind the rear bench seat.

Not quite sure about the "soon" part Stefan, but I'm making weekly progress. ;D

I managed to wrestle the inner sill brace in today. This piece of angle iron had to be notched in several places so it would fit tight against the panel.

From This...

To This...

The left motor support rail was hanging on by almost a thread. After a 1/2 day of cutting, fitting, patching & welding this piece is strong again to hold up the motor.

That's coming along nicely, John! From the photos it looks like you could almost advertise it as an "unfinished project, little required to complete" now ;)

Every unfinished project needs only a little work to complete even if they have just dragged it out of a river after 20 years and only removed the rear bumper.

Talking of which, check out this month's Practical Classics magazine. Don't have it to hand but someone has pulled a split screen VW camper out of a Norwegian fjord where it has resided for the last 20 years (apparently they used a submarine to find it, now that's dedication) and they are going to restore it. Rough as hell but they reckon it's not too bad.....

Just makes you wonder how bad something really has to be before it is considered unrestorable. ???

For me Mr. G it would have to be this-

This poor 1962 DAF 600 was turned into a Monster truck.

it would certainly get you noticed driving down the street.

i wonder if they kept the variomatic. ;D ;D

it does have a certain something about it though.

None of the DAF bits are left in this monster (motor, front suspension, rear suspension & Variomatic all ripped out). It was an actual 100% original running DAF in good condition before it was raped to make this piece of garbage.
The body was mounted on a Suzuki 4x4 frame using all Suzuki running gear.
Only thing DAF left is the body & interior.

I had the weekend off from work, Mom & Sister are in Holland for two weeks so I had a choice...stay indoors & watch the telly or play in the workshop. I choose the workshop. ;D ;D ;D

Left front wing section about 90% complete, all that is left to do here is some detail work which will come much later.

I decided to deviate a little from the original blueprints and add a full cross support piece under the dash. This should give me some extra strength left to right. The entire bar will be blended into the dash with filler later on.

The Saga Continues.... ;)

This is what the final "product" looks like Stefan. It made a big difference by adding in two extra pieces.
