Yep, day and a half left in the office followed by lots of last minute panicking at central on Saturday no doubt and then the worries of getting Gavina finished off on Sunday....followed by anther week of drudgery at work (which will seem to last forever) and then we are there - yay!!! ;D

The rules sound more than reasonable, Pete. Just make sure you have one of the staff ready to do what the farmer at our site in the New Forest did on Saturday night. There was a group of about 5 or 6 young (well, not that young - probably early 30s) ladies who turned up, pitched quite boisterously, then went to the pub. Needless to say, when they returned, they were considerably more boisterous.
At 1 minute to 11 a very well-spoken farmer's voice came out of the darkness:
"One more peep and you'll have to leave. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour!"
Amazingly, not one of the group of drunk 30-somethings answered back and they went (instantly) as quiet as field-mice. If only the police in inner-city clublands could muster that sort of authority..... ;D

Due to being unable to drink anymore I volunteer me and Betty for pub runs
Only rule is as laid down by the farmers wife "Don't puke in my car" ;D

Fair dos Paul, but please ask her to leave any embarrasing stories and photos of Bashford Jnr at home, there'll be no tears before bedtime at Central! ;D

...there'll be no tears before bedtime at Central! ;D Surely that depends on how many long-distance Dafs are still behaving by the time we get there Just worked out that, because we're heading on to Norfolk to visit Sian's Gran while we're down there, Betty will be clocking up close on 1k miles by the time we get back here so, if she doesn't behave in the first 350 or so, there will certainly be tears from me ;D

Hello all. Well, as alluded to in our thread, we've been quite busy preparing Central last Saturday. That morning, I popped by the wholesalers for some of the supplies. We also made up a refreshments serving table in the parts store using a pasting table on a tyre wall. It's all safe, so long as nobody leans on it! With a little imagination Matt and I were able to find suitable recepticles (washing machine doors) to fill with sand and these will be the ashtrays. Please use them! The portaloo is ordered and will be delivered on Friday. We have some hard standing for it. Those who are camping may want to bring torches as the unit relies on a clear roof panel to let in daylight hence is no good at night. If I remember I'll bring a torch and some airfreshener. Farmer George came out with the tractor and strimming device. It's quite a powerfull combination. Before: After: Farmer George won't run his tractor right up to the edges though, as he doesn't know what might be under that foliage. That was Matt's job with the strimmer. What is it they say about boys and their toys? ;D The campsite has had a good strimming too, courtesy of Farmer George. We've been told that George will be upset if anyone disturbes his bee hives. I assured him I don't know anyone stupid enough to do that! Those who don't like bees should not have cause for concern, I saw none there at all on Sunday. There is a nicely strimmed access to the campsite and those needing to cart their gear in by car are welcome but please drive slowly, there is a nasty dip there which would wack your sump if you don't know that it's there - you've been warned! We were planning on using some hardstanding on the right as you enter Central. Unfortunately this has been loaned to neighbours who are receiving guests. Not to worry though, we have plenty of room. Once all the tents are set up on campsite (on the right as you enter, please) and assuming Marcus' caravan(?) is in place then there will be room for cars on the left and a line of cars leading all the way out for as long as needs be. Naturally as we'll probably be parking in a long line, please leave enough room for others to be able to leave as and when they like, without gridlocks! ;D If anyone wishes to bring parts to sell as in Princethorpe then that's fine with us, btmy the way. One last picture I couldn't resist taking, which is rather sweet. Dom's 46 van awaiting her new owner! Now, those who are not camping, but wish to join the convoy leaving Daf Central, please be here before 10am. Anyone who has booked/was thinking of booking, the Ardleigh Guest House beware, they have just cancelled mystery guest no 4's booking due to a 'family crisis'. There are other hotels etc, mostly in Colchester town, so do let us know if you want our help. Otherwise see you there and if you get lost, try to find either of Colchester's train stations, call and an armed escort will be sent to guide you through the badlands to Central. My number is 07778-861513 and if you have Satnav then the postcode is CO7 7TP. I think that's all for now unless anyone has any questions. Otherwise safe journey and see you all here!! Cheese, 33G.

Well spotted! I have one of those industrial sized bags at home so will nab some from there. Matt has sugar and we also have a 300g jar of Kenco Gold, plenty enough to have tea/coffee addicts bouncing off the ceiling! ;D

Hello Pete, We will try to get to the Gathering on the day, maybe to the Home of Daf after as well... Are you going to Battlesbridge on Sunday? We should be there in the Buick... if we can get in!! We left it too late to pre-book... I need to move the blue 66 on too, running out of space at the barn!! If theres no room at the Inn, it may get a lowered, banded steels and roof rack make over early next year...

Hello, The shell and indeed the car is very good, however, the old lady I bought it from had skimmed both sides down the wall at her house , both sides have been repaired but it isnt perfect. It is a pretty much rust free car though!! It has been promised to Pete and Matt though, so they have first dibs Im afraid.

Fair dos Dave and I shall mention it to Matt, it has been a while! I never received a letter from Battlesbridge which I thought attendies automatically received. Regretfully Battlesbridge directly clashes with the DOC's Autumn Frolic which is on the Sunday. Saturday is an extra hospitality day which us Essex Daffers are putting on. You're more than welcome on either day Dave, it would be nice to catch up with you again!

Pete!! I would have been at the Ipswich Museum but as you know, I haven't been out much in the Buick this year, what with the Transmission trouble etc... They do normaly send the info out as you rightly say, this year they seem to have forgotten..., never mind. There is a local car, bus and lorry show at the beginning of October on Canvey at the Bus Museum and the school next door, they do a free shuttle service to the seafront in old Busses where there are other Commercial Vehicles and more busses on display, definately worth the 4 quid entry price!!I will try to get over on Saturday but can't promise, the Rivi is a big car to polish!! Hope you all have a lovely time ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Dave and yes, I remember the Canvey show well as I was there last year (although not displaying). I took the Mrs G and G Jnr and we rode the old buses too. Is it to late to try to get in and display my Daf there? Do you have any contacts and is the Buick going there?

Absolutely that man!! Yep, two days to go! Better still only one more work day for me, although I think I'll be playing the family card somehow. Ney mind, it'll soon pass. For those starting their Essex Daffing on Friday, the gates will be shut when it becomes dark. Farmer George mentioned that one or two cars can be parked overnight in a secluded spot down the side of the farmhouse, should any of you night owls want to leave the farm. ;D Turn left out the gates and a couple of miles down the road is The Old Courthouse Inn, which I'm told does some nice food. Alternatively, turn right from the farm and you're heading toward's Ardleigh which I'm told may have a pizza place of some sort but it is a small village... Please be careful driving into the camping field as there's a bit of a dip in the left side of the track near the field. I've also heard from Basher Balls who says he intends to arrive Sunday morning to follow the convoy and film a video whilst having a family outing. He's bringing some body panels as well as some smaller items for those who may be interested in striking a deal. As you may recall Stephen was put off from joining the DOC as there were no fellow 31 owners; we all know what happened then of course. Shame really as he has a whealth if knowledge with traditional coachworking skills. He's quite a personable chap and I'm sure he'll find us Daffers a pleasant enough bunch. Anyone is welcome to bring parts for sake by the way, we're easy going down here you know! Well, I think that's it for now, if anyone hasn't yet noted my mobile number or the postcode, please do so, it's on this thread. Two days eh? Can't wait! I'd best start praying to the weather gods. Cheese, 33G

Never mind the weather gods - I'm praying to the reliability ones at the moment. Two days to go and Betty's decided to sound a little unhappy around the back end this afternoon (distinctly more rumbling sounds than normal).
Haven't had a chance to look yet because I got hit by an Isabel with brake failure at the same time. One of the new (2k miles ago) rear cylinders managed to fold one of its seals back on itself over about 1/4 of its circumference. Seeing as, apparently, checking brake fluid is down to me rather than the driver (not that I've seen the car since I did the screen!), it had plenty of time and miles to run out of the stuff, followed by sudden pedal-to-floor effect when it sucked air.
So Friday can't come too fast here - the sooner we're on the road the less likely I am to start violently closing bonnets on someone's head while showing them (again) what checks they should be doing..........
