Now I have my mitts on a Daf 44 (1974) I believe. I will have to update this thread. However, it will have to be a bit 'as and when' due to the different locations involved.
Matt and Pete will probably help me compile a large 'wants' list. I have some items for it already lol+++ (black vinyl seats, straight front panel, exhaust, etc, etc).
Watch this space! Ken

Well, immediate needs are a throttle cable and front silencer. Matt was going to see if he has a set of vynl seats for it as the cloth ones are getting worn. You also wanted some earlier chrome bumpers without the plastic end caps although we are a little short on bumpers at the moment. The registration number is KGO 380N (I think) so we'll see if anyone can think up a name for her.

Oh yes, forgot about those. More likely tried to forget about those bits. Darn it.
No problem Joe. I will be triumphant at some point. Have you seen my new Triumph? It's a Triumph 1500TC auto. Lovely little Triumph it is too.
However, I will also have a lovely little Daf too (when done). Obviously it isn't a Triumph but I am not a badge snob. Triumphs and dafs rule!

It's a Tri umph 1500TC auto. Lovely little Triumph (not a DAF) it is too. Saw the thread, and the photos on t'other forum and it looks nice. Still waiting for the 44 photos though (that's "the photos of the 44" not "the 44 photos of the Triumph" btw)

Yep, I've just loaded up the photos of your triumpant visit Ken, I'll try to post them tonight, in the meantime do feel free to post any that you took. I'd like to say for the record that, whilst I don't know much about Triumphs, I am a secret Triumph fan! In my youth my father and grandfather had Triumphs at one time or another, including a Triumph 2000 and a Triumph Stag. Although I drive an SD1 (incidentally, the first joint design under the Leyland banner of Rover and Triumph), given Gavina's recent lack of reliability sometimes I wonder if I may be better off with a Triumph!! ;D

Right then, first of all, thanks to Paul for kindly letting me have a throttle cable. Very much appreciated. Where the heck would I get a front silencer from? Suggestions on a postcard or a pm lol++. Have decided to call the car 'Snowdrop' because it's white. No other reason, just that. It kind of is in keeping with the other cars that I have had and still have (not a Daf). I took piccies mostly of the van and its bumpy bits. I have one little picture of Snowdrop (it's a Daf): Actually, make that 2 piccies: Cheers Ken

....I have one little picture of Snowdrop (it's a Daf): I must be getting good cos I worked that out from the badge on the grille ;D Did forget to warn people when you arrived here, though, that most cars you get seem to end up in lots of pieces shortly afterwards. Good to see that Snowdrop is keeping to plan on that

Well, I think Snowdrop is a lovely name, very feminine too, as I think our Dafs should have female names. So, 'King George' would have become 'King Georgina'!! ;D She really was the cleanest Daf in our collection, I'm sure you'll have her concourse soon enough Ken. Joe, I think the point Ken was trying to make is that it's a Daf (not a Triumph).

Arrghhh. Having evil modification thoughts forming in my head. Must debumper Snowdrop. Possibly debadge her and redo badging in a more subtle retro chrome orientated stylee. The car has such a lovely streamlined, aerodynamic look at the front, it's a shame to have anything on there to marr that.
Does anyone know if that little crash pad on the dash comes off?
Cheers
Ken

It does, it's held on with clips I think. Doesn't leave a smooth dash though....

the exhaust silencer can be sourced from dafhobby.nl beware its not a cheap part or longlife in swansea will make you up a custom stainless system for about £200 dafhobby.nl/pages/44_3pag.html

HI Ken, i may have a silencer for you, the crash pad will come off but leave big holes.
i have and early interior, a set of chrome bumpers and early dash.
snow drop also has the wrong doors on her for a 1972 car, they should have no quarter lights they didnt come until 1975.

What's the difference between a 44 and 55? Is it just the aircooled engine and grille?

That is most of the difference but also
rear vario ratios different rear lights 55 has carpets dash is different 55 has option of discs on front and optional servo front suspension is transverse leaf on 44 and torsion bar on 55

Actually, being slightly pedantic and anoraky, it was only the 55 Marathon that had carpets as opposed to rubber floor covering, and front disc brakes were standard on 55s. Servo came on the Marathon and as Stefan says, was a (rarely specced) option on standard 55s.
I'll go back to my little corner now.

Rubber is easier to clean I suppose. Anyway....... I wonder if the Daf(Not a Triumph) folk might find a little trick that I use to jazz up tired and dull headlinings of use. I first did this in the very, very early 1980's using a triumph (not a Daf) Toledo as a willing victim. triumph used a glue on the headlining that discoloured the vinyl after a good few years, making the headlining look like it smoked 50 fags per day. The way forward was thus: Take off the sunvisors, unclip the draught excluder/furflex around the door edges and remove any other gubbins. Clean off all of the grease, silicones or whatever by wiping the vinyl with meths a couple of times. It was then left to dry for a couple of days. Buy a tub of vinyl silk emulsion, a small furry roller and a 1" brush. Paint on a light coat over the most heavily stained bits and then paint the rest with the roller. Obviously the aim is to get a nice even coat. It will probably take two coats overall, but the results are pretty good. It is much easier than replacing the headlining (if you can get it). Here are some piccies of the triumph headlining: It made such a difference to the triumphs interior. I just thought you might find it helpful. I can't recall what the Daf(not a triumph) headlinings are made of but I suspect it's a similar type of vinyl to the triumph. All the best. Ken

How about the stuff you can use for whitening trainers/plimsolls? Just thinking because it's designed to be applied to a similar material?

John, not sure it'd be defined as a paste. Hmm, over here the term paste is usually attributed to an adhesive for hanging wall paper or similar. This stuff is just an indoor household water soluable paint that gives a slight sheen finish. I'd hate for you to use the wrong stuff.
Anyway, getting back to Daf orientated stuff. Sorry it's been a bit quiet of late. I should hopefully be able to spare some time for a certain litle white Daf but that should change for the better over the next month.
Cheers
Ken
