I reported a couple of weeks ago that my 44 would not start. This followed a perfect trip out then, after a few days, it just wouldn't start again. I was pretty sure it was the fuel pump at fault because the car wouldn't even try to "fire"- the starter just turned the engine over. Anyway today, our DAF Doctor Steve came over today with a new pump, and after removing the dynamo and other bits to get to the thing, and a little bit of cursing, removed the old pump. This had a lot of "gunge" in it. After a bit, new pump was fitted, and after a few seconds of starter motor action, the petrol flowed again. Result! Hopefully here is a video of its first trip out afterwards: photos.app.goo.gl/pZsA8VaTPba7p9Qz1photos.app.goo.gl/pZsA8VaTPba7p9Qz1

Hi Richard, glad the 44 is up and running again. You said the old pump had a lot of gunge in it, might be a good idea to fit an in-line fuel filter...........starider

Good to see the car back on the road! I particularly liked the piece of fuel pipe making a bid for freedom on the windscreen as the speed increased! The tuning might be worth checking, as I noticed you had to use the choke to keep it running once or twice.

I agree a pre-pump filter in the engine bay would be a good idea. Glad to see you got it sorted tho.

Yes, I am pleased it is up and running again.
I was so disappointed when it failed a couple of weeks ago, but these things happen.
The gunge that I referred to was also old congealed grease that had been there for many years. But yes, I will look towards fitting a filter - got one on the 33.
Andrew - well spotted re the cutting out. It has been an issue with this car since I had it - documented in the magazine a few times. Not as bad as it was and it is intermittent, even during the same journey. It's all to do with tweaking the mixture/volume screws on the carb.
Still a lovely car though!
