Would somebody please advise me of the dimensions of the alternator belt for my 1973 DAF 66 Marathon coupe with the 1108 Renault engine. It broke whilst in the care of the garage doing some bodywork after an accident and as they want stupid money to replace it (Euros 75 plus VAT plus labour) I want to turn up with the belt and change it myself before driving away.
I would normally consult my manual but it is in the car. I know it is a standard 'V' section and assume 10mm wide (please confirm) but do not know the length. I guess about 900mm or 1000mm but would appreciate confirmation from someone.
Also, in the event that the car is not driveable can a DAF be towed with the stick shift in neutral. Not planning on this course of action tomorrow but would be handy to know for any emergencies.
Thank you in advance.

Change your garage! 75 Euros for a fan belt.... PLUS labour, when it was their fault......? Blimey! Ask the garage for the old one and nip off to your local helpful motor accessory shop and ask their advice.
As for towing the car, all Dafs can be towed any distance without causing any damage to the transmission. Do bearings mind that when it's being towed the braking efficiency will be reduced, as the engine vacuum will not be in operation. It could be better to place the gar selector in the neutral position, as this stops the propellor shaft and clutch drum spinning unnecessarily, but there's no harm done if you don't.
Just checked: E-Bay has them for £7.00!

That is brilliant service Andrew and once again I thank you for your kind help. Any idea of the dimensions of the belt as the local motor factors here in Brittany will not be familiar with DAF if even an old Renault R1181 block.
Would you also please give me the link to that e-bay fan belt so that I know it is the correct one in case I have to order on line.
Thanks again.

Actually that is not the one as I went up to the garage and cut the old one off. Okay, it may have stretched a little but it is about 1220mm long. Incidentally, not my garage but one nominated by AXA after my DAF was hit while stationery by a third party vehicle.

That looks like it Andrew - 10 x 1225. I think I will take the print off and see if I can find one locally as I need to repair tomorrow to be ready for a car show this weekend and eBay would not get it here until Monday at the earliest.

Sourced it locally at factors - euros 9.40. Same belt as you recommended. Thanks.
