I was just browsing Car & Classic, and spotted this advert for a 66 estate. We've seen it before - ex Stodman Museum/collection but now back on the road.
Something has happened to Car & Classic in that DAF does not automatically appear in the makes list - you have to search for it - so I suspect it won't be such a good place to look easily for DAFs now - shame.
I still prefer it to that well known auction site of doom.
Here's the link (surprised the seller hasn't come on here to try and find a new owner)
I recall this one being bought relatively recently. I don't remember seeing the left front wing quite as it appears on the photos found on car and classic now. Does that look like some sort of damage to anyone, or is it just an unfortunate photo ?
I' now probably torn between this one and the 46 estate which is just down the road from me..... 850cc air-cooled or 1.1L water-cooled.....quite the dilemma! I've had both and both were excellent fun.
This classic car lark never gets easy does it....?
Daf is not in the list on the left of Car and Classic, I got it by going to classic cars on the list on the top, (or going to Classic Cars in the Category drop down menu in the box next to the ad.) The Category drop down menu will already be showing Classic Cars. This box has lots of choices and drop down menus, then select Daf in the make drop down list. Its a more comprehensive list of makes than that on the left. That damage can also be seen in the picture with the bonnet open, it looks quite fresh. Its a peculiar "crease". Whats that mark on the opposite side above the spare wheel?
I sold it via Retrorides- I put a load of Vactan rust cure on the crease on the wing and on various bits of surface rust on the body and engine bay. It doesn't look pretty but stopped anything getting any worse.
I bought it a couple of months ago, I was intending to use it as a daily driver, but felt it deserves a bit better treatment and care so put it up for sale.
It's not that I dont like it, it's a hoot to drive, the bodywork isn't mint but the whole car has a certain charm about it which I loved when I bought it, I drive it regularly around Kent and people smile at it! and it got a fair bit of attention at the couple of classic car shows I took it to this summer.
It has started over revving, and doesn't pull away too well, although it does still drive. I've been using my Renault 5 recently as I don't want to kill the DAF.
I've checked the vacuum and that seems OK, I am going to crawl underneath it next week and check the tension on the belts.
I will probably keep it if I can get to the bottom of the problem, but if anyone was seriously interested then I'd let it go.
I did join the DAF owners club couple of weeks ago too!
I'd be looking for £1500 if anyone wants it as is, it runs but like I say its revving a lot more than it did and struggles to pull away.
If it struggles to pull away from standing start, are you sure the clutch is working correctly ? Aside from that there are plenty of reasons it might struggle. My 340GL volvo struggles sometimes but that I think is down to poor fueling and possibly a leak in the vacuum setup somewhere...it doesn't get used a whole lot, maybe once a week at the moment, and yet some days it will fire up and run like a charm.
I'm interested in this car 66 and a 46 recently on here....it's about time I was seriously belting along as it's just such fun. Only have space for one of them though.....unfortunately.
