GREAT NEWS - CLASSIC 1970s TV DETECTIVE SERIES, VAN DER VALK, FEATURING LOTS OF DAF CARS, IS BEING REPEATED ON TALKING PICTURES TV. You can find out more at the Talking Pictures TV website. This great channel can be watched for free on Freeview, Freesat, Sky Digital and Virgin. If you haven't already got Talking Pictures TV, retune your TVs and set top boxes now. Although I have got these programmes on DVD, there will be something special about tuning into a TV channel to watch these programmes. Get the slippers on, a glass of what you fancy - maybe some 1970s special Mateus Rose, BOLS, or just a coffee. And in non-pc fashion but to get in the spirit of the era, a small cigar!

Always one of my favourite satellite channels, as there's usually a British 1950s or 60s "cops and robbers" film, with loads of car interest of all types. As I remember Van Der Valk, Barry Foster is excellent in the lead role! Love your suggestion as to "how to watch"! Looking forward......

I guarantee that you will have the theme tune playing in your head. Eye Level, by the Simon Park Orchestra. The programme was so popular that it helped this record get to Number One in the pop charts in 1972.
I still have the single!

Watched it last night was policing really that bad in those days. The yellow coupe was a beauty, you really could not mistakes parking by those canals, did anyone notice the red 33 in the traffic in Amsterdam

Yes!
It was of its time, of course and from our point of view, the plots are secondary!
Friday night's had more DAF action with our heroes using a white 55 saloon. However one bit of continuity error - in one scene they were driving to a hotel in the 55 with cloth seats, but left a few minutes later in one with vinyl seats! I know I'm taking it too seriously!
I'm sure I also heard a telltale sign of gear change crunch.
And I keep whistling Eye Level.

Yes, I spotted that, too! I missed the first one, as it was Maundy Thursday & I had other events to attend, but I watched another on YouTube to compensate. It's a pity that Talking Pictures don't have a "watch it again" option on their website, as I could catch up with the first episode again. Barry Foster's acting is always impressive; I well remember him as Saul Enderby in "Smiley's People" during the late 1970s on BBC TV.
As for policing in the 1970s, it wasn't necessarily bad, but was in the context of the times in which it happened.
