I'm happy to report that at last I have been able to purchase a Daf 33 Van/Combi. I hope[weather permitting],to collect it from Lincolnshire in a couple of weeks. It's down for a complete restoration and I've suggested to Richard that I produce a blow by blow[with pics] account of the restoration as it progresses. It must have been over 20 years since I began looking for a van.The old saying "everything comes to he who waits" does seem to happen, but I would have been happier if it had surfaced about 10 years ago. I now seem only to be able to work at half speed!!...........starider

Well done! I've been looking for one for ages! There's a guy in Potters Bar, a few miles from me, with a "K" registration one sitting in his garden, slowly rotting away. As if that wasn't enough, he has a 33 car in a garage. Maybe he's "eccentric" but he's happy to watch the van (& presumably the car also) disintegrate rather than part with them to an enthusiastic collector (like me!)

That’s great, I’m glad you have finally found one. Lovely to own something that rare.

I've been doing some research into Daf 33 vans (well, I've looked up some stuff on t'internet!) and I wonder if anyone on the Forum could answer a few points:
1/ On E-Bay there are several brochures for Daf 33 vans; an earlier one, dated from 1971, showing a white Daf 33 Combi on the front cover, is entitled "Daf 33, Van, Combi and Pick Up". The technical specification gives details of a SIX volt electrical system, as per pre-'72 Daf 33, and the brochure has the comment "NOTE:Combi and Pick-Up: these vehicles are not available in the U.K." Yet the pick-ups WERE imported into the U.K., albeit in small numbers.
2/ A later brochure, again from E-Bay, from 1973, entitled "Daf 33 Delivery vans", shows a Combi, both on the cover and inside, but no pick-ups, but no mention of combis not being offered for sale in the U.K. Does this mean combis WERE imported to the U.K. at some stage? I can see that this vehicle would prove pricy, as it would have been subject to Purchase Tax, whereas a van would not, but nevertheless, it may have proved useful for the small sole trader, who needed his vehicle as van during the working week and an estate car at the weekend.
I have seen pictures of combis in the U.K. & wondered if they had M.P.H. (as opposed to K.P.H.) speedometers, as this is always a giveaway as to a vehicle's origins. Any thoughts anyone?

Hi Andrew,Combi s were always available from Holland, but as you quite rightly say they were quite a bit more expensive due to Purchase Tax and I believe with a fold down seat in the rear. I'm not 100% certain as I have never seen one. We didn't sell any from Benstead and Pidcock[or Pick-ups]. I seem to remember Pick-ups were quite expensive because the Lincolnshire dealer used to buy vans and have them converted. Never saw one of those either!

Hi, small update on the Van and Pick-up, have finished the shed to house the digger and quad and moved them in.I now need to tidy the workshop so the pick-up can be moved out of the poly tunnel and put behind the van,so over the winter the P-up can continue to dry out and I can begin to do more bodywork on the van.

Good luck with it...that's a long time to wait! Would love to follow your restoration. Always find them interesting.
