I know this has probably been done before and I have looked through the previous posts but still confused. What profile tyre for a Volvo 66? original equipment states just 155 x 13...it doesn't state the profile. Modern tyres are 155/70/13, 155/80/13 etc. So what tyre do I choose ? 65 profile or 70 or 80? The tyres look in good condition but the rear look old...very old, possibly 20 years or more! Front maybe 10 years old. Thanks in advance. Oh, I should add that I finally got hold of a nice Volvo 66...photo's to follow soon. Been looking for quite a while. Thanks to Graham of DAF Classics in Peterborough (Dafman 50) for facilitating the purchase.

I think 155/80/13 would be the best, lower profile tyres will affect the gearing and make the car rev higher at all speeds.

Hi Swissdave Thanks for reply. Yes, I don't want any of this newfangled 'low profile' nonsense. Just an ordinary 155 13 tyre. I will check availability and prices of 155/80/13 locally and see what's around. Anyone have any specific recommendations? Nothing too expensive.. Cheers Dave

Yes, the "new world" is 155/80x13.
It is one of the most popular sizes, certainly for cars from our DAF/Volvo generation.
Loads of makes to choose from including some very strange sounding "bingbongs" from various parts of the world.
Personally I would go for a well known make/name - no need for top of the range though. I've just treated my 33 to a set of Firestones.

Great, thanks for the replies. Would 155/70 be much different from 155/80...? I would have thought that the 33 would have been an even smaller tyre? Oh, yes Richard, now that I have finally got a DAF (well it's a Daflo) I really must join the club.

As regards what tyres you decide to fit, I wouldn't compromise on them, under any circumstances! You have 4 pieces of rubber, each about the size of your palm which are in contact with the road, and that is ALL you have to keep you in contact with it...frankly, I'd buy a quality make and sleep easy! Personally I've always fitted Michelins to everything I've ever driven, although my 33 is now wearing Firestones, as Michelin no longer make the small sizes used by Daf 33s. Believe me, the only thing you don't compromise on are tyres and brakes! To quote a seriously "old school" senior mechanic at my Volkswagen dealership, where I learnt my trade all those years ago...."if you put the wrong oil in your car, it stops. If you out the wrong tyres on your car, it WON'T......"

No, the 33 doesn't use 155/80x13 but I was just making the point about getting a decent make of tyre.
Good to see things coming along for you.

lol...yes, good advice. I have always avoided cheap low end tyres and usually get a brand name but not top of the range. I will have a search around and see what there is. Thanks all for replies

Hi, I have put 155/70R14 Continental tyres on my DAF46 last year. I bought them in France and they costed me EUR 232 (without the mounting by a mechanic). Are you sure the wheels on your V66 are 13 inches ? They look similar to DAF46 wheels.

I think you will find that although the wheels look very similar, it is a fact that the Volvo 66 did have 13" wheels and 44s/46s had 14" wheels as standard (although a lot of people have upgraded to 13" because it tends to be easier to get 13" tyres)

OK, I didn't know that. Interesting... Did DAF 66 also had 13-inch wheels or only the Volvo 66 ?

It is interesting to note that the Volvo 66 DL (1.1 ltr engine) had 14 inch wheels, whilst the 66 GL with the 1.3 ltr engine had only 13 inch wheels!! I would have thought that the bigger engine car would have had the larger wheels??

I would have thought that the bigger engine car would have had the larger wheels?? I see your point but the reason would be because the 13" wheels look a bit more sporty than the 14", plus the fact that 13" tyres are wider than the 14" ones, so better handling/cope with faster speed better. We only got the GL in the UK.

Yes, makes sense what you say.
I didn't realise that the UK only got the GL version.
