Ok, photo number two will give you a better idea of how glorious the colour is! Sadly it highlights the fact it needs a front bumper (although some would say it looks better without!).

I am soooooo jealous! The colour is bearable although, frankly, any colour would be on one of those

Seems like the general consensus is I've done a good thing. Phew. Goes well with my splendid everyday 900 from 1983..... The thing I love about Saabs and DAFs is that owners are fiercely loyal and enthusiastic - and a decent bunch of people too. I would recommend Saabs to anyone. Comfortable, well-made, daftly fast with a turbo, well-engineered, and a little bit quirky. And best of all, cheap. The three I have cost £1200 - the other being a 9000 CSE 2.3 turbo.

I have been a fan of Saabs since my elder brother had a 9000 turbo, lovely motor and I had a Mk5 Cortina, no comparison! And I do really like the colour, it's like an avocado but not too in your face. I think quarter bumpers like the Mk1 Escort would really suit it nicely!

I remember Steve and Maggie had a S-reg 99 from new which eventually rusted apart many years ago, and also a nearly new bright red 99 Turbo - at the same time that they had several DAFs and were setting the club up.
Supremely comfy and solid, certainly compared to other makes of the day. And I was always intrigued by the "wraparound" windscreen.
So yes, these SAAB 99/900s do also attract the DAFfers!

Interesting thing about the wraparound screen is that, apart from the excellent visibility it affords, it's also designed specifically to be elk-proof. So that's useful in the West Country Apparently, after chatting with other Saab owners, Combi-Coupe's like this after very hard to find - if not particularly sought-after. Can I post a picture of the interior now? I didn't take that photo, so apologies for it - will get a better one when it gets delivered next week.

Yep, that peachy one is nice. There's also a rather spiffing 99 that's just come on eBay (a 1983 silver two door saloon).
My 900 has a splendidly expensive Phillips "computer" (that's what it says on the front) car stereo which must have cost a bomb in '83. Digital display, and thankfully a manual tuner. It has a nasty habit of playing songs from that era on the way home too, which always makes me smile - especially "Two Tribes" and "Don't You Want Me".
Incidentally, from what I remember the video to "Don't You Want Me" contained a rather nice 99 and a Rover SD1.
Talking of AM/FM stereos, my they were expensive - I have a 1983 Ford brochure here which prices a push button cassette AM/FM radio as an option for £306. A 1.1 Escort cost £3209 then - it's like paying getting on for £1000 for one in todays money!

The Editor and Webmeister also has a bit of a confession... This is one of my fave tunes, and this song reminds me of a basement bar of a hotel in Southampton in early 1982...
Anyway, here's the video -
Rock on! Well, not really with the League.
Also, "Louise" saw another of my fave cars reaching a sad end in a canal at 3min 40sec - an FE Victor.

LOL - I see what you mean. Oh those were the days -reel to reel tape and video and of course good old film. I see what you mean though. Also, the Saab used was a turbo - you can see the boost gauge on top of the dashboard. Obviously was a cold night(s) when they filmed the outside shots in that video, judging by the exhausts. DARE to be different (musical pun there)
I wonder whether it was filmed around Sheffield, where the League are from? Eeeeh can be cold in t'north!
The chicks looked very good on it though.
