I am currently on the hunt for another car. Why cause i want one no other reason. This could be interesting as I only have about £250 to spend. I dont care whether its manual or auto, but would quite like it to be economical and have a bit more oomph than the DAF and tax exempt. So somebody please tell me why im going to see this on sunday with view to buy. As it doesn't fill any of those criteria. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290392625016&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123please end my madness and find me a Shiela lol Paul

Nah, forget that, what you need is a 55 marathon coupe. Oops, I forgot, you already have one!! ;D Seriously though, those 2CVs have really gone up in value so do check it thoroughly that it's not too much of a rust trap. Also check reverse, as they have a strange gearbox and I have heard stories that the reverse cog can unwind itself from the gearbox and cause all sorts of trouble (least of which having no reverse, worse is being stuck in reverse). The column shift will take some getting used to (as most 2CV owners are muted to say ' pick any gear, as long as it's forwards) but from my Trabbant ownership I would say it's quite easy to get used to. The cornering on these can be quite alarming too, aparently they have had race series and can be taughtened up. Let us know how you get on!

Nah, forget that, what you need is a 55 marathon coupe. Oops, I forgot, you already have one!! ;D I would gladly have a marathon that was't going to take 3 or 4 years to get on the road. Its being sand blasted at the end of the month so I can see just how much rot there is. If its as bad as I think it is I will put it up for sale.

I do like Dyane's but I'm sure that will be slower than your Daf, and cost a lot more than £250 even in the short term.

i have always liked these but would never have one, they deteriorate fast and parts are specialist so expensive,
the chassis are expensive and prone to rot, as joe says your £250 wont go far.

I have a 2CV6 which I bought 2 years ago. It is in very good condition and set me back £2250. The chassis' do rot and would be a big expense to replace. Some have been blessed with a galvanised chassis some time in their life (like mine) so that would be good if it has one of those. All parts can still be bought as there is a company which still sells these here in the UK. They are so much fun to drive once you get used to the gear stick. Very easy technology and easy to fix (once you can get to the broken part in some cases). These cars were built for the peasants in France to use to go to work on the land and were designed to be fixed on the side of the road if they broke down. They were only designed to live for 4 years so it's quite amazing that there are still that many about. Once treated for rust, they go forever and mechanically are hard to break. Just give them lots of TLC and grease and they will not let you down. They can drive 80 m.p.h. all day and won't complain. They are not fast in pulling away but once you have one, I'm sure you will be bitten by the 2CV bug. I love 'em.

Mac I took MOTs and fuel and such into account the actual budget is £700 £250 for the car and the rest goes in peripherals

I would go for the Blue triumph for that money, I mean how could you get mad with that if it broke down, whereas the 2CV.... Well, either that or a reliant robin for the quirkyness of it and they come pretty cheap these days too.

Yeah its gone to portsmouth she took a deposit yesterday and it was collected this morning. Shame for both of us she said she would have liked for it to have stayed local. As for the blue one ive enquired to see if I can get it into the Area 52 playday and get fixed up for an MOT that way seems a likely plan otherwise ask him to weld the sill up and I can do the rest myself.

This looks a far better bet if you are in the West Midlands. cgi.ebay.co.uk/NSU-GREEN_W0QQitemZ180458252384QQIf I had a trailer, a place to put it that wasn't on the Queens Highway, and a full frontal lobotomy then I would quickly dispose of all my cash on this honey. I imagine parts availability will be best described as Non-Existent and Expensive. It would make a nice Garden ornament though.

Joe love the prinz, they share the washer bulb with the daf so thats one non existant part not availible there the triumpth is lovely that would my buy or and austin morris 1800 ;D im not against 2cvs or dyannes and would always like one, i know of alot of people who have owned them and they have disolved quickly so you would want to find a good one to start with. i remember changing the inboard brake pads once, not fun besides that 66 that howard has got is a good bet, can still get most parts from local motor factors/ebay

Well, the Triumph should be available from the first week in Feb and he likes the idea of it keeping in touch with it's sister. ;D The only trouble is, you'd probably have to call it Bruce

Ooh la la!! That Prince, georgeous!! Mind you, if I had that then my 'friendly welding mate' probably wouldn't consider me much of a 'mate' for too long! ;D Looking on retro rides yesterday there was a nice Suzuki SC100 Wizzkid which would fit your budget, if you were to spend the whole budget on the car that is and sod the peripherals!! ;D All of which got me thinking about some tempting cars on there. Then I remembered that I am currently skint. Hey ho!

Well done Paul, I'm so glad you went for the Triumph rather than the tin snail that you were looking at. It's a classic brit so yes, it will probably leak oil and break down a lot, but you can be proud of it and feel patriotic every time you stand by the road side with the bonnet up and give other jeering drivers a one fingered salute with impunity. Seriously though, I'm actually quite jealous as I've liked these for a while but short of winning the lotto and buying a house with a much bigger driveway there's only so much Mrs. G will put up with! ;D
