No Photos Today im afraid Boris is now Finished ;D Yahh!!!! well sort of Hes Back together and Looks lovely But had Developed an Oil Leak Being an Automatic the Oil Filter is of the Old Fashioned Purolator Paper filter in a metal Canister design After lots of Messing hes stopped Leaking but i really wish there was some way of Making the sealing Failsafe? I think a redesign of Canister Flanges, and design of seals and O rings could be improved but as A series Automatics are no longer in production who is going to Re-design them? Surely there must be a trick to make sure the high pressure O rings/Seals wont leak whatsoever? if there was a groove in the Seal the Canister could locate in it properly ;D As there isn't its rarther hit and miss trying to "trap" the Large o ring between the canister rim and the filter housing

I had one of those on my Austin 1300. It helped that I had a driveway with a raised platform. You could park close to the edge and get underneath to deal with it - Didn't stop me getting oil everywhere though! Oh, and the raised platform was good until the car rolled off it! Can't you get conversion kits for that sort of filter now?

You can certainly get spin-on conversions for the Triumph engines that had paper filters - not sure if they're done (or possibly the same?) for A series though.

Thanks Guyz ;D Yes you can convert the old Canister type to spin on if its a manual but with the Auto you cant Aparently the pressure is too great I believe it was trialed at the factory but the spin on type spun themselves off due to they couldnt handle the pressure This is Crazy but crazy in a nice way i put this message on Mini Forums but didnt get any reply Even though its not a Daf you guyz are soo helpful and happy to offer advice ;D Thanks ;D ;D ;D

Would it not be possible to have a more remote oil filter with pipes etc? I suppose it wouldn't make any difference with the pressure problem...

Having a look round it seems the biggest problem is getting a canister filter with a high enough flow-rate for the auto box. That starves the box of pressure, leads to slip, and kills the clutches and brake bands. It could probably be done with a big remote filter but doubt it would be worth the risk in the long run.
