Hello Folks Can any one clear up the situation of the Daf 33 ignition timing on the Daf 33. My car is a 1973 model which according to the label on the the car body and in the manual, it should be set up to After top dead center, and it is also fitted with the emission control solenoid on the the carburetter. However the engine in my 33 seems to run better if I set the timing to before top dead center, (as the earlier engines) and I am wondering if this is the original engine or an older replacement? Does any one known from what engine number the change occurred. As I have just overhauled a older 33 engine as a spare and it would be nice to know what I do with the timing on this one?
Regards Bob

Thanks John All the manuals that I have, seem to point to 1972 for the change (must have been about the same time they changed from 6 volt to 12), but I also have no information on from what engine unit it started from. Might try and see if the DVLC have a record of the original engine number when the car was first Licensed. Since setting the ignition to before TDC with the engine in the car it does seem to start and run a lot better. Will leave it at that, unless I receive further information.
Best regards Bob.
