Can anyone kindly advise re: type of spark plugs and HT leads for Snowdrop? Best suppliers?
Thanks
Ken

Gladys runs halfords universal plug leads quite happily. Beware they need to be very long. Otherwise both plugs and leads are available from the club. Plugs are readily available on ebay and will fit the larger of the 2 sizes of spark plug socket. Which is annoying as the triumph uses the other size. Also don't forget DAF where economical so you only need 3 leads and 2 plugs.

If you've got a proper auto factors near you they should still do individual plug leads by length. That's what Betty's got and she's been pretty reliable on them. Can't remember what the listed plug is for a 44 but the 33s use NGK BP6HS (short reach version of the 6ES used on all the brit stuff) and it's basically the same engine. edited to add: NO, I'm not an encyclopedia but I've got these guys in my bookmarks ;D www.gsparkplug.com/shop/spark-plugs/spark-plugs.html

Cheers. Anyone able to quote the length of the 3 leads for me? Can anyone confirm BP6HS for Snowdrop?
Cheers
Ken

Betty has 1x 52cm (to o/s) 1x 61cm (to n/s) and a 28cm coil lead. Seem to remember that I trimmed the next standard size up to those lengths for neatness. The 52cm is quite a short fit for that side and your cylinders are slightly longer so maybe best to get a couple of cm extra for that one.
Plugs are listed as Bosch W.175.T1 which xrefs to:
NGK B6HS (That's essentially a BP6HS with a slightly shorter insulator so you should be fine with either)
Champion L6G
Champion L85
Champion L10S
Autolite AE3
Bosch W7A
Lodge HN
KLG F75
AC 43F

Thanks for that Joe.
I shall order some from the Club, that way I get the right one's and the Club gets some pennies too. Win/win.

Cheers for the replies everyone. Hopefully all sorted as a set of plugs and HT leads are snailing their way to Matt at Essex Daf as I type. Also a lovely new battery going the same way I believe.

Cor, has it been so long since an update was posted? I suppose it's a bit confusing having so much of the update stuff posted c/o the Essex Daf superhero's. Just pleased to report that things are progressing well.
Anyway, a bit of an update 'cos we like updates:
Snowdrop (not Snowstrop) is now a runner. Matt and Pete have been beavering away in the background and have done wonders. I think that all is needed now is more fresh petrol (down to me and Tesco), the rest of the exhaust (hopefully resolved fairly soon), a bleed of the brakes and some general tweaking and tinkering to keep her running smoothly.
Cosmetically on the outside..... not too much. The worst bits being the rear n/s 1/4 panel and a bit by the rear of the n/s door. Obviously there are some other bits to tidy but none of this should affect the MOT getting nor the general day to day running. The interior looks great with the black vinyl in place (apart from the rear seat upright) but will improve with further cleaning and a bit of repainting of the lower section of the dash with black crinkle effect paint.
I am sure we are all going to be very happy when SD is finally MOT'd and used on the road.

Hi Paul, I will be there on the Saturday but I can't do the Sunday.
There is the Triumph event on the 6th March IIRC and I am not allowed to go play with old cars too often in the same month, especially when Ben is home from Uni during the Daf weekend. I'd have loved to have helped otherwise, sorry.

Looks like it could be a close-run thing between SD and 'Tilly at this rate, Ken. The fact SD is running and moving probably puts you guys ahead by a nose at the moment so I may have to change up a gear

Tis a small nose at that Joe. Given the rate of progress that you are making it will be close indeed.

The bloomin' things paid for but I cant afford to pick it up as I haven't been paid on time!! Ken provided I can still afford to go this weekend which is now looking tight Snowdrop WILL be heavily worked on. I got lots of tools with me

spare a thought for the few Daffers out there who do a good job opposed to the plenty who talk a good job. The name kANGO would suit the vehicle and the addition of 380 newtons, suffice it to say!! No need to involve members of our royal family at this point. It is far more important that you seek parts opposed to names at this stage of the game

Anyway, errrr right, now back on track. Snowdrop continues to run with a lot more fresh petrol swishing around and a bit better after much twiddling of various engine/fuel related twiddly things. Many thanks to all who twiddled. You know who you are. Swish rear number plate was also left with those kind folk at Essex Daf. All concerned liked the plate and it should look rather good when securely fastened in the appropriate place. Ken

Looking at the pics, I thought she already had her rear plate fitted, Ken - you know, the "invisible to cameras" type that blank in a fraction of a second when they sense a flash going off ;D

Ken. We plumbed her direct into a jerry can of fresh fuel. Then some tweaking of timing, cleaning the carb and resetting she is now purring away lovely.
I am 99% certain her fuel lines are leaking and that is what causing the rough running. As after a good 10 mins pumping she was still sucking a lot of air read more air than petrol!! The only way for that to be there is a leak in the line. Fix it before junking the fuel you put it as it may well be fine.
She had another thing done after you left, she now has a new brakelight switch and her brake lights work again

Paul, if the fuel takeup pipe in teh tank has a slight fracture it will also suck air from there as well?

We spotted they weren't working just after you left. As it was case of pulling of a couple of wires and screwing a new one into the master cylinder, it seemed daft not to do it as Matt had the part.

It must be a trend for owners not to notice faulty brake lights Ken, the same happened with Andrew and Blue Thunder when they arrived for the Frolic convoy - with brake lights stuck on! ;D As I recall we were due to depart within the next 15 minutes and there was just enough time to find and fit another.
