Hehe, the silencer has already found a new home For when Sue's needs replacing (as it has plenty of welding in the past!)

Again clutch shoes should have plenty of miles left in them as I changed them when I had her. To be honest I wouldn't bother seperating the crankcase halves unless you suspect bottom end trouble. Im pretty sure the leak would have been coming from the push rod tubes as they are the only seals I didn't get around to changing trying to sort the leak out ;D

Paul: I didn't realise the front silencer on her was so new. I really should pay more attention to your old thread! I'll probably just stick with it then. Anyone got a picture of the rear heat exchanger mounting bracket so I know what it should look like? I've already had a look at the clutch shoes and they are fine. I may not split the block itself as there didn't seem to be any obvious bottom end problems. For the oil leaks, I've found small leaks from the push rod tubes, the fuel pump gasket and the gasket under the dizzy/breather unit. Hopefully that will be the lot. Cheers, Mark

Cheers, Mark Its not just the front silencer the whole system bar the heat exchanger was replaced not all that long before. As I said earlier I had a few problems caused my manufacturing defects and because it was imported from Holland the rear pipe had to be cut in two for postage. From your photo here If you look at the right hand exchanger there is a bracket coming off it. That should bolt to another piece of metal held in place by the engine mounting itself. It shouldn't be two difficult to fabricate a replacement especially as the engine is out already.

That's something off the shopping list then. From your photo here If you look at the right hand exchanger there is a bracket coming off it. I'll see if the ones on Howard's 44 are intact and if so have a look at making up ones for Gladys. Mark

Ok, really long time since last update. Gladys' engine is now mostly reassembled. As proof, here's an artsy photo of the engine in its current state that my wife took recently: The alternator belt in the photo is too long but I now have a shorter one. I was also not totally happy with how the alternator mounts to the engine, as the rear mounting bracket was not used. I've put together a spacer and a long mounting bolt that will fix that problem. My next job was to repair the broken bracket between the heat exchanger and engine mounts. I figured could use the one good bracket as a pattern and make a mirror image to replace the broken one. Unfortunately I then discovered this: Both of Gladys' brackets are broken So, does anyone have a pair of these brackets they are willing to sell me, or alternatively one that they can loan me to use as a template so that I can make new ones? Right, a long overdue update for Gladys. I've mostly managed to get her engine back in one piece. I've now basically changed all of the gaskets and seals, cleaned the engine up, renewed the service parts and put it mostly back together. I've also cleaned, de-rusted and painted some parts so the engine should be in pretty nice shape once all done. I decided before Christmas that Gladys deserved a treat, and since I'd found some issues with her carb (sticking choke flap, play in the throttle spindle etc.) I decided to have it professionally rebuilt. The carb arrived back this week looking like this: Looks like new! The engine currently looks like this: I've just got to finish making the new brackets from the engine mountings to the heat exchangers (see my last post) and then the exhaust can go back on and the engine can go back in the car. It still seems likely she'll have to go up for sale in the next couple of months, but hopefully by that point I'll have her back together and running sweetly.

A small update today. Gladys' engine is now mostly back together. Got new exhaust mounting brackets from Danny, along with new engine mounts. Fitted them all up. Hit a bit of a snag when I realised I didn't have any new fuel pipe with me but managed to get a lot of the other bits attached to the engine. Photos: Gladys is now definitely up for sale. I'll post up an advert once I've got the engine back in. For now, if anyone is interested in her then PM me. For a quick sale to a good home I'd take about £150 ono.
