I would be grateful for your observations/comments re a technical aspect of the website - the main site as opposed to these message boards.
The reason I ask, is that over Christmas, I accessed the site from a totally different computer to the one that I set the site from.
The appearance and layout was very different to how it normally appears to me. Pics in different places and text overlapping text.
Now, I've had this site up for the last few years - much to my amazement - I don't really understand how! But I am worried that you or other visitors may see strange layouts etc that do not look good.
If there is a problem, then I shall try and sortit. Not sure how though. I keep trying to use an on-line website template service, but tend to lose the will and patience trying to make sense of the "simple" instructions.
Thanks.
Richard

Hi Richard
The website looks good on my computers. I have checked on two laptops with different size screens and on two pc's with different size monitors and all the text is where it should be. However I am familiar with the problem as I noticed the problem when I made a website once. It is difficult to make a site that looks exactly the same on every computer. The standard screen size is about 17" but obviously some people will have newer and bigger screens and some will still have older 15" or 14" screens. I am not a webdesigner but I don't think that you can completely get around this problem. I ended up designing my website for a standard 15" screen and choose a fixed width. This meant that the page always looked the same but that you had a wider blank edge around it when you viewed it on a 17" or 19" screen. The Daf site looks good on 17", 19" and 21" screens so I wonder who has experienced problems with it. Where they looking at it on a small 14" screen?
Cheers Pedro

Thanks Pedro, that is very helpful.
The other computer was a (wait for it) 7" screen! One of these new wizzy ASUS EEE-PCs.
No wonder the layout changed, but other websites proportions remained the same.
I won't fiddle too much then. Just changed the colours a bit.

Hi, I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and haven't noticed any problems. Though the symptoms you describe can occur on some sites with Firefox but not with Explorer. If you want a site that shows this email me direct Richard. Happy New Year. John

Many thanks everyone. If we're happy, I'll stick with what we've got then. I guess it's very old/basic software, but I have sort of worked out how to use it!
However, when some of you start talking about resolution/screen sizes etc, I think.. EEEekkkk!

Hi Richard,
I use a 19" monitor at work, cannot tell you about software etc as I am a bit of a technophobe. I've only just started reading all the forum posts!! The only thing I've noticed (apart from a large border on the right hand side) is the top row of pictures have a black pillexating smudge on them, which I didn't notice when I was previously a member a couple of years ago.
Otherwise great website.
