This is my 33 which I have started to renovate. She will be completely stripped, in fact, everything inside the car has now been removed. I am very pleased with her condition as I have not found any rot (yet) anywhere. I'm planning to get her sandblasted, treated against rust and repainted. Now, the brown colour she is in at the moment does not look too appealing. I have not seen any other 33's in that colour to be honest. I could give her that colour back to keep the authenticity, but I would prefer the DAF white or cream. A friend of mine said that it was not advisable to change her colour. What do you think? Would it be a crime to give her a new DAF colour or should I stay with the brown she is in now? If anyone is interested to know how I get on with my restoration or has any hints and tips then feel free to e-mail me. I always like to chat to fellow DAF-anatics. alveeruk@ntlworld.com

I wouldn't say it's a crime to change a car's colour - it's your property, and you can do with it as you wish. You have to keep it and look after it. Personally, I don't have a problem with it but I have to admit I didn't like the colour when I bought my 66 estate which is the same shade. I then cleaned and polished it and I quite liked it because it is unusual to see a car that colour these days and it really stands out.
I'm "doing up" (slowly) a fleet of DAF's including 4 32's/33's so I am sure we can help each other with our experiences!

Wow Howard, a whole fleet? I am tempted to buy more but I have ran out of garage space. Rented a garage to put my 1986 2CV in. Then I have my everyday Peugeot 306 diesel and the other halfs 106 diesel too. I'm tempted to put a bid in on that DAF 55 on ebay (you know, the one that is exempt from congestion charges because of the variomatic lol), but I have to behave. There is also a DAF 46 on the Belgian ebay site as is a Volvo 66 estate if anyone is interested. I'd love to stay in touch and see how you get on with your fleet. I made my mind up by the way, she will be resprayed in the same colour she came into this world with.

I would post some pics, but it only allows 5KB. Mine are on average 25KB and I can not paste them either. Any ideas on how to do it?

Thanks Rich,
I have tried so many times but could not get it to work. Just tried it again but no luck and the bracket was there lol. Don't worry John, I am so bad with names too. When somebody introduces them selves to me, I forget about 2 minutes into the conversation. I don't know if she has been repainted before, everything under the trim looks very original and not been messed with. She was bought in 1973 and changed hands in 1976. She was then owned by a woman who drove her till 1989. She was then put in storage as her husband bought her a "proper" car (as they called it). She sold it last year in the summer to the guy I bought it from. He mainly sold it on ebay for the numberplate as it would suit a Porsche 911 driver. However, I have seen a paint run somewhere on the body work so it might have been repaired somewhere at some point. There was water in the two sides of the boot as the rubber drain pipes had fallen off the boot lid drain. But still no rot. I guess she must have been covered till the summer last year, and when it rained so much it must have leaked in the boot. I saw on your pics that the cover comes off, so I was a bit disappointed to find that it was sealed. I don't have to open it for any reason, would I? I want it to be sandblasted and the repainted as some of the paint has rust in it. There is a nasty dent by the front headlight so that will have to be repaired as the front wings are no longer available. Anyway, I am a mechanic but I don't know much about body work so will have to leave that to a professional.

Not only that, it still has the dealer sticker in the rear window. It's still in a quite good nick as well so will leave that on if the window cleaner doesn't make it crumble.

Hey John, have a look on the DCN site. Go to "modellen" and click on the DAF 33. Scroll down and click on "kleuren". Look at DAF 33 de Luxe (3303) vanaf 1971. I think my colour might be the Mostana one, Mosterdgeel. Terrana looks too dark. By the way, anyone reading this can go and have a look please and compare with the pics on here. It might even mean that my DAF IS from before 01/01/1973. I'm still waiting for the DVLA to get back to me about that one.
