Guys, I am making arrangements to go and look at them. It is just around the corner for me so I could easily pick them up. I do believe you can't tow a Daf? Not even for 2 miles? I have a 33, not a 66. If he has parts in there for a 33 as well then I will take the lot. I can take all the parts off the 66's and then if any of you need any sell them on to you. I will not rip anyone off or sell them for stupid high prices, trust me. I might need one of you someday to help me out. We could always go half on them, but they will have to be stored outside. If anyone wants the shells to cut them up for spares? If not, I might even make one from the 2.

Do they come off pretty easy? Could it be done in a short time? Would be really cheaper for me to take them off rather than to hire a trailer, van or dollies. Window winders are noted, that is if I will buy the lot. Space would be a problem, it means that my car and my other half's car needs to be parked on the road. Neighbours will be well pleased lol. If I get them, I will strip them asap so the shells can go if they are not repairable. I can only do one project at the time. I rather buy them though than seeing them become baked bean or Coca Cola cans yet.

Hi guys, I had a look at both cars. If you want to put them on the road then it would be a lot of work. However, the whole garage is full off 66 parts. Full glass around (3 times), bonnets, boot lids, headlights, bumpers, heads, engines (3 including the ones in the cars), vario drive units, 66 estate quarter panel, 66 sedan quarter panel (both new), radiators, petrol tanks (6 or 7) and I'm sure there is more. Nothing for my little 33 though. The cars are in Luton, just around the corner from me.

hi. The owners manual for a daf 44 actually says that :- "the car CAN be towed for ANY distance WITHOUT special precautionary measures having to be taken"
as the variomatic system is pretty much the same on other models i would think it would be ok to tow the others as well.
do the manuals for other models actually mention precautions for towing. i can understand not using the rolling road for mot as this only drives ONE wheel, which would put a lot of strain on the drive belts but if both wheels are turning at the same speed being towed the strain should be minimal.
does anyone out there have an owners manual the check this as it could prove useful to know about. Paul

Hi All, re towing DAFs, i have towed them for hundreds of miles just on a dolly with the front wheels up and have never had a problem, as the clutch is centrifgal it will not engage so it doesnt even mater if it is in gear, the 66 is the best to tow as there is a diff on it, i have never had a problem yet. and belive me i have towed some proper wrecks in my time with DAFs
it would be a shame to see them get broken up, there are not even many 66's left now, i broke up a bout 5 in the past and wish now that i had not, i have a garage full of 66 bits that i have never needed and the cars i killed couls have gone back on the road quite easily.

hi everyone, seems i've caused a bit of a stir with my ebay listing! the cars belong to my mother in law and she loves them to death but has decided that they must go, one way or another. there are enough parts to easily make one good car if you were so inclined, which i have been regularly reminded by the M-I-L. it would be a great shame to lose the cars forever.

Well guys, I have bought the 2 DAF 66 on ebay. I must be extremely stupid or extremely brave. I will have a look at the state of them and see if 1 is salvageable. Make one out of 2. I need to take stock and see what is what.

And a surplus there is. Nigel has offered to bring the cars to my house free of charge. The garaged one might be able to be saved. I will have a good look at it and maybe do it up to drive around in. The one outside has probably had it so it will more than likely live on as parts in other cars. Besides the cars, there is a wealth in parts so I will let you guys know what there is. I will know more on Monday or Tuesday. I work for easyJet, so that takes a big chunk of my time every week lol.

i'm very happy that i dont have to scrap the cars and parts. even though they belong to the M-I-L and not me, i have spent some considerable time in the past tuning and repairing them to keep them on the road and have a slight affection for them. best of all was turning up at the MOT station and watching the tester groan at the thought of yet another road test for the brakes then seeing him return full of glee as he remembered how fun they can be to drive. of course now the front garden is to be car free i can see some back breaking work there for me as i'm talked into either relaying the driveway or turfing it. alex, i've checked and i can still obtain the van on monday so after we've moved the cars we can move the parts in one go with it.
