As most of you know our club have had a stock of belts made and these are available at a reasonable price. I fitted a pair on my Volvo 66 as the first job when I bought it in 2014, well it was actually Matt of Essex Dafs fame who did the bulk of the work to be honest. The belts looked fine and weren’t very worn but the car made a wierd pulsing motion when at a steady cruising speed as the belts had sort of set in an egg shape from being sat for so long. Replacing the belts transformed the smoothness of the drive and have proven to be a fine investment. I’ve now driven about 6500 miles with the belts and haven’t had any issues at all with them. A lot of those miles have been with a more powerful engine and they have taken a fair bit of abuse and haven’t needed any adjustment so far. I checked them again this evening as the car has had a lot of hard use the last few weeks including high rev launches at drag racing and they still haven’t worn enough to adjust, they are really tough!

Hi Swissdave,
The first picture is quite impressive ! I guess you used a hoist to lift the back of your 66. I don't have such at tool, but since I will have soon or later to work on the belt of my 46, I was wondering if it is OK to use the center of the differential as a jacking point to lift the back (with a piece of wood between the jack and the differential). As both the 46 and the 66 have a de Dion axle, perhaps you already did it or you know this should be avoided. Your advice is welcome .

Hi Dafix I lift the rear with a trolley jack under the De Dion tube axle, this is very strong. I would not jack on any part of the gearbox or differential. In the first picture the car was only in two tall axle stands, those and the jack we used that day were large 4x4 vehicle types to get the car higher.

Hi Swissdave, thank you for your reply. I guess the tube you mean is the curved one that can be seen at the top of the second picture. I've just check it also exists on my 46 . That makes sense. Although I have seem spmetimes that cars with a rigid rear axle can be jacked up from the center (hence from the differential box), I was pretty sure this should be avoided on a DAF 46/66.
