Hi, collected my old 33 Pick-up from my son today. It hasn't been used or looked at for well over a year and is in a bit of a state, any part of it that could hold water was full,the sills,foot wells,both wells in the boot area[that was] and more places I could not see, both front wings now need replacing as they are beyond repair and the whole truck needs bodywork and a respray. It wouldn't start, but a usual it will be contact breakers,condenser etc.Oh for an electronic ignition system!! One positive, whilst winching onto the trailer litres of water ran out from everywhere. I will try and fire it up tomorrow so I can drive it round into the polytunnel to begin a drying out session of at least 6 months. As soon as I can clear a space it will be put into the workshop with the van. Can I just give a few tips,if your Daf is parked outside make absolutely certain the slots in the join in the outer and inner sills are clear of rust/debris, as if they are blocked, will allow water to collect. There should also be similar slots in the wheel well and the oposite side well.These slots are also useful for spraying old engine oil or anti corrosion liquids into. I don't expect to begin this "new" project for at least a year when it will have properly dried out. I will post a few pics. in the next few days.....starider

I think this 44 is the one "daydoodler" really went to town on with a complete strip down and re-build with no expense spared. Anyone looking for a well restored 44 could not go wrong. As I've said recently" I wish I wasn't so hard up". If anyone is definately interested I would happly go down into Cornwall and give my honest opinion on it's condition, if dafdoodler" is happy for me to do so......starider.

Hi, Managed to find time to get the Pick-up under cover. When I followed my own advice and cleaned out the drain holes, the sills were free of water, the rear inner wing wells yielded approx. 3 litres of trapped water. It wouldn't fire up and the spark at the points was weak, so after a search found a used set of points and condenser. Checked the distributor cap for cracks and the centre carbon pick up,all OK but still wouldn't start,took the cap off yet again and there staring me in the face was the badly burnt area where the brass pick up in the centre of the rotor arm was missing.A used rotor arm later, it fired up instantly. There is an unusual rattle/knock from the clutch area, so there is a problem with the clutch.It drives quite well so it was into the polytunnel to dry out completely for many months, then it looks as though the first job is engine out.

Hi, just realised that the picture of the Pick-up under my avatar shows it in pristine condition, it looks far from that condition at the moment!!!
