Hi everyone, I am installing a tachometer on my daf 66, I have correctly connected its light, but now I have two problems: 1 - where to connect the positive of the tachometer? can it always be powered or must it be locked up? and where can i find a positive cable under keylock? 2 - what is the negative output on the ignition coil? Is that the cable going to the distributor? I'm in the mists ...

Stefano,
Aside from the connections to the light, which should be connected to the sidelight circuit, the rev counter will have an "ignition live" feed and a connection to signal the rev counter itself, together with an earth connection. The earth is obvious, and the "ignition live" should be connected to an ignition live supply. In the Daf 66, if you're fitting the rev counter on the panel below the heater controls, I would take a feed from the heater fan, which is only live when then ignition is on. The connection for the taco signal needs to be connected to the "CB"(contact breaker) connection on the coil. To help you, looking at the coil there are two low tension connections, as well as the big thick high tension one. Of the two low tension connections, one is live when the ignition is on and the other one is the "switched" side, that runs into the distributor. It is THIS side that signals the tachometric relay. I ran a thin wire from this terminal on the coil of my Daf 33 into the passenger compartment via the grommet through which the car's wiring passes, then to the rev counter. I've secured this wire to the looms using very small cable ties.
Hope this helps.

I connected the positive of the rev counter to the red cable of the heating fan, and the signal cable to the thin wire that goes from the ignition coil to the distributor. Thanks!

News! I found that the tachometer works fine until I turn on the heating fan ... I need to find another positive cable under keylock... I could try by connecting to the rear fog lamp switch, it is near the tachometer and it is under the key ...

That won't work unless the lights are on, as the feed to the foglamp will (or should) come from the headlight feed. I think you have taken the feed from the wrong side of the heater fan rheostat, as one side should always be live, regardless of the setting of the rheostat. That said, perhaps you might be advised to find another live feed. The ignition key is quite close, and one of the leads there will be live when the ignition is on. I'd recommend an in line fuse, though.....

Connect the positive input of the rev counter to the other terminal on the coil, probably marked "+", or "sw". That is an ignition controlled 12v supply. You will then have two rev counter connections to the coil, one is the signal, which already works, and the second, the new one for the supply. You should only be able to switch on the rear fog lamp on when the lights are switched on, so that terminal will not be any good.

I connected the positive to the ignition coil. The tachometer works fine!
