Hi, I am awaiting the return of my 33 Van distributor which has been converted to electronic ignition. Before I make any recommendation I will fit and test the distributor and hopefully report favourably. I spoke today with the guy who has produced the kit and fitted it. The "trigger" unit, which fits under the rotor arm, has been hand made because the company only produces kits for 4+ cylinder engines, so a trigger for 2 cylinders has been, as I said, been hand made. The company has expressed an interest in producing kits for 33/44/46, but would need guaranteed orders for upto 100, as they would have to order the manufacture of the triggers. The kit would be around £20. I would need to check if the kit could be fitted to a 6 volt system. I have had electronic ignition in the past in other makes of vehicle and believe me they saved a fortune in contact breakers/condensers,continual setting of point gaps, and far better starting! Will report back when tested. Comments please.

I'm interested in how the car drives after fitting the electronic kits and will await your remarks after driving round the rural charms on West Devon!

Hi, I am still progressing with the electronic ignition for the DAF 33 to 46 models. I have just received a brand new scratch built electronic distributor for testing and appraisal. Once the temperature in the workshop rises from the -3 degree temperature to a reasonable temp. I will fit and test. The company would expect a brand new electronic distributor to be priced at around £135, which is far cheaper than the £350 'ish for the one already available. They may produce kits to convert the current distributors to electronic at a much cheaper cost.As soon as I have tested the new distributor I will report back. Having had classic cars with electronic conversions the advantages are far reaching, no points to continually adjust.no affect on timing as the points wear,no condensers to fail, not affected by damp and better starting.
