Seeing as it looks like we won't be rowing across to claim a Daffodil anymore I guess we'll just have to fit an outboard and drag the whole damn workshop back here! When exactly will you be away from home next? ;D ;D ;D

The harder you work the wormer you will be, and the more work you will do.
You could restore the whole fleet trying to keep worm in winter

Hi John, I think it is admirable what you are doing in saving the best halfs (?!!) of these two dafs and making what will be a very desirable car. Only thing that concerns me is what will happen when you try to return her/them/it to the road vis-a-vis the US equivalent to our MOT? This is no doubt what we would call a 'cut and shut', the joining together of two different vehicles. One assumes it will continue to use the VIN of the front end? How do examiners view these types of creation in the US? I don't think it is illegal in the UK as long as you don't mislead a potential buyer into thinking it is the whole original car (not that you intend to sell it) but I think it is frowned upon. Not that the welding of the two cars won't hold up, in fact the weld is often stronger than the metal that it joins together and therein lies the problem, in that if it was involved in an accident then by virtue of those welds stresses could be transferred to areas which were not designed to take such stresses which would then be more dangerous in an accident and it is that is the reason cuts and shuts are frowned upon. I know you'll have extra reinforcement to make the shell regid to cope with the loss of the roof and back window, just wondering how it will be viewed when it comes to the annual test.

i can always remember a TV documentary where a woman finds out her XR3i convertible is a cut and shut. the show decide to show her how dangerous it was by smashing it up at 50 mph into a block, she didnt look too impressed when it stayed together really well ;D then they told her you never know Ps John its on the wrong side for when it comes over here

We can sort the boat for the raiding trip at Henblas. They have some decent size ferries at Holyhead - should be able to get most of his workshop in one. If MacP makes it he could suss out the layout on the way over for when we comandeer it

That all looks very well done John.
It certainly seems so much easier in the US. And $16 to keep a car on the road for a year? More like £68 here for my 33 (ahem, when it goes back onto the road that is). ;D

There's a rumour that the conversative party would bring back the rolling tax exemption if they get back into power at the next election.
There's no EU standard for rolling tax exemptions, except that most countries have them. It's unlikely that we would get the 21 year rolling exemption, 25-30 years has been mooted, but I think that would suit most of us!

I miss the Dutch system... rolling 25 years, cars built between 1960 and the rolling 25 years only need an MOT every two years, and cars before are exempt from MOT! (not sure if that's a good plan tbh) It's a good thing I'm not allowed to vote, all the parties are as "good" as each other

Though why you might want to is another matter entirely ;D

hi.
i think everyone should vote. if everyone went and spoiled their ballot papers instead of not bothering then the idiots in charge may realise how many people are not happy with them and start getting their acts together.
now i get off my soapbox. rant over.
