Hello all, Went to see a Morris Minor for a fellow message board member today. Car was sadly rather rotten (repairable) In the barn there I spotted the following: It's a 1973 Humber Sceptre Mk3 with 1725cc Rootes lump (with overdrive etc) I managed to get some photo's of the interior and the underside: Interior It's not been on the road (officially) for "a while" and is thought to have done less than 12k miles. It's an L/reg car, registered March ´73, so there is a chance that it was manufactured in very late 72... The only rust I have found is on one of the doors, there are some superficial bubbles on the rear door. Any idea how much it would be worth? I know the asking price, it's not a lot...

My handy copies of practical classics and Classics Monthly (both a couple of months old) say £300 in condition 3, £800-£1000 in condition 2. Hard to tell from photos, but that certainly looks like it wouldn't take much beyond an MOT and a polish to make it condition 2!

I think I´ll go for it, worst case scenario is losing the 150 pound asking price...
Didn´t think I´d be up to 4 cars this quick again...

No, you really don't want it. Not at that price. What you want to do is PM me details of where it is then forget you ever saw it ..... ;D

Well, I have to expand the fleet!
If I do decide to go for it it will be the biggest engined car I have ever owned...

Very nice and rare, like the more basic Hillman Hunter that it is based on. Nice seats and trim. Interesting mounting position of the seatbelt reel.
My word, what is happening to us? - Acquiring extra cars!

Humber Scepter did not have the holby, that was in the H120 fast back and the hunter gls, it had twin webber 40s. The scepter had the same cylinder head but standard cam and twin strombergs. Looks very nice in the photos just needs a wash . As for it being the largest engined car you have owned i find the older i get the smaller the engines in my cars get my fun cars have gone from 7.2L down to 1.4L at most in 4 years .

7.2? Can't beat that. Had a 6.6 litre Pontiac but that's as silly as it got.
Biggest I have now is the 4.3 Vortec in the Chevrolet Astro.
I seem to be the odd one out here as I am selling cars at a great rate of knots (NO DAF's - I do have SOME sense left). No more Vauxhall Victors, no more Rover P5B. Dolomite soon to go, along with a couple more Saabs. Hell, I even turned down a nice Rover P6 at a bargain price. What's wrong with me? I really do fancy keeping my Triumph Mayflower though!
I did buy a nice 2.3 litre Saab 9000 t'other day as my daily driver. Fine car, and a veritable bargain.
I do like the Sceptre a great deal - looks like a bargain to me!
