So me and Dafdaffer picked this up this morning on a 140 mile round trip. It is not as bad as we thought it was going to be so think we will save it. ;D

Glad it hadn't deteriorated too much since we saw it last, Stefan. It certainly looked like it was in the "saveable" category then - have you had it running yet?

My word... Another! Do I sense a bit of "north v south" as in "we're going to have at least as many DAFs as the southern crew"?!

A-ha! The one the advert said that "Everything was seized!" I look forward to reading about your 'progress'! ;D
Rather like Harris Mann's original Austin Allegro design which was supposed to be low and sleek - until BMC decided to stick the 1500 Maxi lump in it - I did read somewhere that the 44 was supposed to be lower than than it ended up because the Variomatic mechanicals made it impossible. How true is that though - How low could a 44 go without making it bump it's bottom?

'Posted by DAF mag and webmeister on Yesterday at 5:18pm My word... Another! Do I sense a bit of "north v south" as in "we're going to have at least as many DAFs as the southern crew"?! ' Steady on now Mr. B, it's not a competition you know! I agree, it is nice for Daf's to be accessible for all. As for Mattsdaf72's collection, I should mention his daily runabout appeared on this very site as having a broken clutch. Matt bought it. Most of the other cars in his collection have been advertised either on this forum or in the national press/motoring magazine classifieds, so they were available for any of us to buy should we have chosen. His 46 came from a firestation where it was due to be used for the firemen to practice using their 'jaws of life' and Matt just happened to be in the right place at the right time to save it. The bottom line is that we all love Dafs and as long as they are being saved, then what does it matter who's 'collection' they are in?

I have no problem with collecting Dafs and Matts colection is very impressive, Although i think the 55 coupe with smashed in front would be better in my colection than his but that is a small matter.
We are the same the blue 44 would have gone for scrap if we did not have it. Every daf that has come to me has not been road worthy when it arrived apart from the 46 and that one should not have been in my opinion.

I sold my 55 coupe with smashed in front some time ago and I cannot now remember who bought it. Is it Matt's one? Mine was white but I forget the reg. no. The smashing was done by my beloved Betty who mistook the accelerator for the brake while being towed and charged the tow car - Saab being driven by me and halted at a major T junction - up the chuff. No damage to Saab! Should never have parted with that coupe but I rather lost heart.

Matt's is white and the damage looks like it could be the same one.

That's three of my old cars accounted for and all under or about to be under restoration. Betty,(My Blanco), Dilly and now the white coupe. Supplier of semi sound cars to the forum members - that's me. The red 33 which went also to Anglesey must have been a spares only job - or was it? I also sold a brown 44 to a guy in Belfast. Has anyone seen or heard of that? I gave a blue Volvo 66 estate to a chap in Peterborough in exchange for some work done on Blanco - clutch. I don't suppose that is still about either.

I have a total blank in my memory about selling the coupe. Where does Matt. dwell and do any of his collection appear in photgraphs on this forum? Has the coupe been under any restoration yet? Just curious!

Pretty sure the red one went as spares, marcus. When I last saw it I think even John would have has serious reservations about restoring it - and that even if it had been a Daf 600 with chassis number 0000001

if john would not restore it, you could probably have scraped it up with a shovel. that mans dedication to dafs is legendary. paul44

Hi Dillyman. Matt is in Colchester. His collection can be seen in the ' North meets South' thread in Daf Discussion. Sorry, not clever enough to post a link for you though...

They can't complain - it was advertised as a basically hole car. Anyway, nothing there they should be flawed by.

I'm impressed - I hadn't connected that it was this one you were hoping to get back on road for Lichfield, Paul!
Then again, they're not exactly big cars so 4 months should be enough to beat / weld a complete new shell if needed - gives you about 9 days per panel ;D
