Excellent!

Great spot, Howard - I hadn't noticed that: Not too sure I like the caption but what do you expect from a book that stuffs chicken wire in a rusty sill? ;D

Erm Joe, don't I remember seeing you fix a bottom of a front wing with mesh and filler?!! ;D Anyway, that chicken wire used to do me fine as a youngster! I too think that I have the same book at home gathering dust, along with a home decorating book (also AA I think, bizarely enough) with lots of 70's interior decorating schemes, groovy man! ;D

As someone pointed out on the TDC, that Jag shell has a rear spring hanger in the sill at about where the back end of the hole is. It may also have seat belt mounts , and the sill itself is ever-so slightly important structure on them as far as I remember! Does make me feel a lot better about the couple of small (and I do mean small) blow-holes in Isabel's floor that got covered with seam sealant though ;D

Thats how is was gonna fix my triumph tack welds and chicken wire FTW. Serously Ive found a fair amount of screwed up newspaper and filler on Dads old Landrover surely chicken wire has got to be stronger than that.

Seeing the rust holes on that Jag just reminds me that rust is the great leveller, it has no respect for class or what a car cost new. I'm sure the Jags of the day probably rusted as well as our Dafs did!

See, told you I was dull. My long-term memory is frighteningly good - but ask me what I did half an hour ago and I'd not have a clue!
I think the book's reference to "cheap automatic transmission" was more referring to it's cost price - I hope!
In my 22 years of car ownership, the things I have found in sills have never failed to surprise me - from concrete to slippers....
