Well , got to workshop today , realised I hadnt ordered exhaust and intake gaskets etc , so I could put engine back in , so...as LouLou looked SO sad I thought ide treat her to a clean-up , some T-cut and a bit of wax ! This was the windscreen , windows and scuttle ... with them cleaned and rainex`d..I moved onto the bonnet and roof , cleaned , T-cut and waxed.....steady boy ! then did o/s/f wing at which point ( as you do , randomly...) I decided to take the blown spare tire of the wheel with just tire levers as I read on this fantastic forum it was possible , which it was , easily ! I did consider nicking my son-in-laws 4x4 tire but it was a bit to BiG...... Thats all folks !

You'd hate it even more at UK fuel prices, John ;D Really looking forward to seeing this one (and Kicker) getting back to the road so we can form The Three Daffodils. Not sure yet whether we'll be a cheezy Motown-style pop group or a group of swashbuckling vigilantes

A N.O.S. air filter and these ; a pair of N.O.S DAF front indicator lenses , 1 in original Daf box ,1 in Ovlov wrapper ! and.... and recently got this complete carb rebuild kit for £10.40 on Netherlands ebay from a French seller , made in America by Federal Mogul ! its better travelled than ME !.....

STOP PRESS ; PROGRESS AT LAST ! Well , just a little....... I Managed to get a couple of hours in the workshop yesterday ! Started making a list of parts needed so .... Took off the O/S/R brake drum and stripped everything to clean , shoes look nearly new , so will re-use them , but the wheel cylinder bore is bad so gonna replace them , the flex-hose is perished and the short brake pipe , so ...took a dEEp breath and decided to remove petrol tank to make access easier .....Hummmmmm... Mr Ziebart kindly put about 1/4" of his best gunge all over the tank and the rubber seal so that took a lot of " carving / scraping " to allow the tank to go up thru the seal ! Not that im complaining ( much..) as its that , thats kept the floorpan so good ! I will probably clean that off the tank competely and paint it with Hammerite ! Should go back in easier then...... Going to make a complete set of new brake pipes , and the main fuel pipe , as most of its rusted away..... Next time ..im going to strip front brakes !
So on my shopping list so far : Rear wheel cylinders , Rear flexi-hose , and , if available.. 2 headlight chrome trims - both badly rusted . possibly headlight`s as well as silver has 40% peeled off . Air filter housing -underneath , the hose take-off is snapped off and they`rs a hole ( rust ) between the 2 lower skins with rust rattling around inside - dont want that dropping in the carb ! Cheers ! Happy Daf`ing !

Great to see some progress Wheel cylinders are cheap and flexis should be as well - don't make the mistake I made and end up with metric thread flexis though. They were on a silly cheap clearance deal (less than a fiver each iirc) - I think they were off an SD1. Perfect length but 10mm ends, despite the seller saying they were 3/8 Rethreading is possible in that direction but not a lot of fun! Air filter housing I may be able to help with, and (less likely) headlight trims. I know I've got a couple of trims there but pretty sure they're there because they were bad I'll be visiting the workshop later today and will have a look to see what I've got.

Nice to hear some progress has been made Kev. Most if not all brake components can be obtained via the owners club. If Joe can't help with headlamp bezels then I'm sure we can.

Sorry I didn't get back on here yesterday. No luck on either I'm afraid - I couldn't find my spare air cleaner housing and, as I thought, the spare headlight rims I've got are not something you'd want to be seen on your car!

So im sat watching Deal or Noel Deal when I got restless fingers... The obvious solution ? Get out the chrome polish and shiney-up my newly aquired ( thanks to essex Daf`s...) headlight surrounds ! They came up like new ! So progressing along nicely ....... ..........as I said to Raquel Welch when she asked to marry me ; " one step at a time " The original`s were probably the rustiest part of the whole car , even tho the wings behind the headlights etc are perfect !

I'm feeling guilty now for not doing that myself Kev, but yes! They've cleaned up lovely. Feel free to pay us a visit and we can always find some more bezels for you to polish.

Nice to see some work going on there Kev. Can you fix that filter (NB that broken pipe connects to the vacuum unit via a rubber hose btw) or are you in need of one? Can't say for sure whether we have a nice clean one that doesn't need work but could always ask Matt to look for you next weekend.

A short pit-stop...but managed a couple of hours today ... ;D Started off with this ; ( thats wd40 spray ).... took front drum off - no hub-puller needed !..... ;D and found this ; Great ! Amazingly clean ! brake shoes look nearly new , Then the FuN started.. .im going to replace all the brake hoses so went to remove it....the pipe popped-off no probs but ....would the bl##dy hose undo ?......I had to resort to bending the support bracket ( see top of picture )..down so I could get a SOCKET + looooong bar on it ! ...even then it fought every single thread.... Then popped wheel cylinder rubber off to reveal.. solid lump of rust ! - but gonna change all 4 cylinders anyway as well , to be safe . Here we have genuine 1973 over-spray ! ....still no dirt on it , ( yet .....) dont think he prepped the wheel-arch lip on the new wing very well !

I empathise Kev. Having changed Gavina's rear hoses I can confirm that the only way to get decent access is to remove the petrol tank.

Thats not a very clear picture , my camera doesnt like close-close ups......thats rust n black fluid , the piston was well and truly rusted into the bore , the bore`s and piston`s front and rear have heavy pitting , so , going to change them all . strangly , as the brake parts LOOK clean , ( they were changed 9 years ago just before she came off the road ) , but what passes as brake fluid is BLACK ! ....

LOL..... DAFs don't seem to float well...so that is not an option. As far as the steep hills....nothing as bad as we have here. This road is called "The Cascades" and that is my 1962 DAF Pick-Up. ;D ;D ;D ;D John pah that hills nothing you should see what Gladys was going up and down on a regular basis in west wales. Then there isn't a flat or straight road around here.

Todays " Gradient watch " ........8=) Its not as long BUT one road , " HIGH AND OVER " ; 82 m ascent in 1.05 km Average gradient 7.8%, with sections up to 16% with an S-bend ! When you go " over the top " you cant see the rooad and its like being in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when the wings pop out .......8=).....

all we got round here is Fish Hill... quite scary though as the bends sort of bend in again on themselves which can be a bit disconcerting...

We've got loads of hills in Essex we have, they're practically mountains they are! Yes, really... About the steepest one round these parts is Bread and Cheese Hill.

Just as a P.O.I... I was looking for 4 x wheel cylinders as Steve didnt have any to hand , looking elsewhere , best price about £36-£40 inc p+p .
Then I found on ebay ; Item number: 370544768305 Bendix boxed set ; 2 x wheel cylinders , set of shoes and springs , I got 2 complete sets £46 inc p+p ! so everything will be new apart from the master cylinder !
