Found the East Anglia Film Archive today courtesy of a letter in PC magazine. It was worth the cover price just to discover this little gem of a road safety film (watch to the end.... ) www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/1062

Excellent piece of nostalgia there Joe. That hare probably ended up on Farmer George's dinner table.

Brilliant. Love what was considered to be a "busy road" in those days! If there's any traffic within a mile, don't cross....
I also expect if that cartoon bit was shown today, half the kids would be off getting counselling when the hare was flattened!!
Some LOVELY vehicles to be seen though (even if they are speeded up rather comically at times!)

I've just followed a couple of the "follow-on" links that came up with those, Richard, and I'm not sure that they're acceptable in a PC world but I'm going to link this one and let you use your wisdom. Note that I am NOT endorsing the views in this video, I just find it fascinating that such views were once socially acceptable enough to be the subject of "public service" films!

I know what you mean Joe. Did anyone notice that Jimmy is left handed? Bizarre!

Oh good grief.
OK, interesting video - fascinating history and attitudes etc but as it's not really road safety related, nor that much to do with cars, apart from those giving lifts, then I think in the interests of a peaceful life, I have to remove it.
And to show fairness, I'll take the ones off that I put on.
Anyone coming to this late and wondering what we're on about, then worry not.
Moving swiftly on now...

Talking of old films - The Pathé web site is a great source of classic stuff - tap in "BMC" for instance to get a plethora of film - not all of which has soundtracks though. More "On Topic" - if you put "DAF" in - there's this clip from the 1958 Dutch motorshow, worth a look........... www.britishpathe.com/video/dutch-hold-international-car-show/query/DAF
