Beautiful, and I love the colour. Have you replaced the heater tubes I see? I could do with doing that as the original cardboard ones in Goldie are utterly knackered!

That is a very generous offer thank you. I have a list of little jobs I want to do in the spring and that is one of them!

Great job you are doing there! The 44 is not much loved, but it might be the most well balanced daf ever. an economical 2cylinder engine with ample torque at low revs for such a light car, and still all the roominess of every B type (including your 66).
one question though: you say 1975 model. but the 44 was already superseded by the 46 earlier (i think beginning of 1974, in NL at least). Could it be a long standing ''orphan'' car, sold long after it was produced? Was the 46 ever sold in GB? it was stated long ago in the DCN magazine that it was not exported at all but i heard of an original french 46 last weekend.

Daf 46 cars were definitely sold in the U.K. and brochures promoting them here pop up in E-Bay from time to time. The brochures use the phrase "Daf cars, built by Volvo" so it suggests that although the Daf 66 Marathon WAS changed to the Volvo 66, Volvo didn't bother re-badge the Daf 46 to a Volvo. I suppose the 66 could have been a "baby" Volvo anyway, but the 46 was just too "Daffy' to be a Volvo!
I'm not sure of the chronology of the design changes, but I wondered if the change from the Daf 44 to the Daf 46 co-incided with the Volvo take-over of Daf cars. If it did, maybe they saw fitting the Dedion axle to the 46 a safety driven decision, in line with Volvo's ethos. It also saved them having to produce 2 rear axles!

Yes, as Andrew says, DAF 46s were sold in the UK.
Indeed there is at least one still in regular use, owned by our own Joe, of this parish.

Here's the funny bit: After Sunday it wouldn't need a test! Amongst the plethora of new M.O.T. rule changes that come into effect on 20th May is the exemption for vehicles over 40 years old. I'll still be testing my 33, just to be sure it's OK anyway!

Your 66 must have been a VERY early one; maybe even a pre-sales car, for Daf's publicity promoting the new car. Daf 55 cars were sold up to "K" registrations and some (possibly old stock) were sold with "L" registrations. If your 66 was first registered in 1971 it'd be a "J" registration (I think) which would look "odd" to me! Early 1108cc 66 cars were badged as "SL" but later this was changed to "Super Lux".

Yes Andrew it is odd. It is badged SL. On the DVLA system it has first registration date 01/07/71 which as you say would have been J I reckon something has been typed into the system wrong at some point, even if it was a press car/demonstrator it is still too early for a L suffix? I have since discovered that depending on what/where I check online, it is listed as first registered anywhere between July 71 and March 73 YouGov have it as 03/73 I agree. Definitely some sort of computer inputting error. A bit like the various different descriptions for DAFs versions on the general DVLA database. Definitely not a 1971 car - 66s were probably still on the drawing board then.

Some news about this little gem. She is now in new hands, mixed emotions as I didn't intend to sell (or at least for a while) but the right person came along and I was happy to do the deal. The new custodian was brought up with DAFS and has more than a passing interest in them, I couldn't have asked for a better person to take her, and she will be getting finished much quicker than I could have managed.
