Joe's message about the PDI reminded me that somewhere, I have the invoice for my original DAF 55's first service that was done in May 1971, just a couple of week's after it was first registered! The original owner had kept that invoice with the car, and although my dear old 55 is long gone, I have found the said invoice: Attachment DeletedThis then led me to find the first invoice for a service/repair that I ever had, soon after I had acquired the 55 in 1980. And what's more, Joe, it was at Automart in Nottingham! By then, they had become Colt (Mitsubishi) dealer, but they still serviced DAFs. It turns out that I have quite a few invoices from them mainly from 1980 and 1981, before the DOC came into my life. Here is the first one that I had from Automart: Attachment DeletedSo, where do the years go?...

That first service was carried out at Sheborn Motors of Southgate, north London, from whom, in my early days living in London I bought many bits and pieces! The garage became a Renault dealer and then a car wash. An "old school" mechanic who worked there when it was a Daf dealer remained a good friend of mine for many years afterwards and helped me change the belts on my Daf 33 in the 1990's
How things come around again... I worked as a mini-bus driver in the 1990's around the Barnet area and delivered many OAPs to their days out. Amongst my pick-ups one day was the very Mr. Luder who had owned Shebourn Motors, although he was a frail old man by then. Funny how things jog one's memory!
You're right-where did the years go?

Well well - small world!
I bought the 55 (it was my first car just after passing my driving test - never planned to have a DAF) from a friend of my grand parents (who also owned a 55) who was having to sell due to health reasons. It was cheap and I thought it might last me a few months!!
Two weeks after passing the test, we headed off to Finchley to see the car for the first time, I paid for it and drove it back up the A1 to these parts. The start of a very long DAF journey in so many ways, for me.
35 years. Bloomin' heck!

I'm having a lazy day (recovering from a bad cold & ear infection!) looking at "all things Daf" on t'internet and have already spotted a few linked things, including the P.D.I. sheet for a Daf 66 FTW 374 L posted by Joe; the VERY car has just been the subject of a rescue by Essex Dafs! And it gets better! Your Daf 55 was serviced in 1980 by Automart of Nottingham, who (I'm sure you were aware!) were originally Daf dealers who (wait for it...) carried out the P.D.I. check on that same Daf 66!
Has my life become suddenly smaller?

I've got a load of old service invoices for the same car from Automart. They were from dafdaffer of this parish when he was clearing his garage out. So a smaller world just got smaller as I believe he owned it at one point!
