Well, with the weather breaking, gales forecast over the weekend, and half the petrol stations in the country closed what better time to go on a 500ish mile trip in the Volvo 66!
I’m taking part in the MCCs Edinburgh Classic Road Trial, which meanders about over the Peak District, obviously! Previously I’ve done the MCC events on a bike so this should be warmer an drier. It starts tomorrow evening so I’ll try to put some pictures of the event when we’re back home again.

That sounds brilliant, please do share photos and let us know how you get on. The weather doesn't look great for the weekend does it?

I'm also a member of the MCC and have often thought about doing one of their trials in my 33! DO report back as to how it went!

Well there we go - all home without a problem after 595 miles of which about 150 was on the trial itself. Though the suspension creaks a little now - it had a good workout on the Peak District lanes.
the event was a regularity trial with a few special tests and route checks along the way and entirely on tarmac unlike the other mcc trials. We finished after many wrong turns and detours about 1/4 of an hour late after about 12 hours of participating - there are two mandatory rest stops and we took several other stops . Other cars ranged from MGs and Morgans to a fiat chinquicento and in total 12 cars were entered in the classic road trial ( out of 400 cars and bikes for the whole event)
go and have a go, just make sure you have a good Map reading light for the navigator. Unlike the MCCs other events we only got an hour to look at the road book before starting. Take a pen to cross out where you’ve got to, and a torch to read the road signs which are never illuminated by your headlights
The great thing was that I think it was the most photographed car at the start, and we had several toots with thumbs up from overtaking cars on the motorway. We even found the tents hadn’t blown down or leaked in the storms that came in during saturday morning.
photos in a bit.. . . .

Great pictures! What is the strange 3 wheeler in picture 5? Ah, that is a Reliant Robin based special. It’s got about 5” more ground clearance than standard and probably a lot lighter too. Apparently a lot of the bodywork is horse box derived !
