I have a Kalmar Tjorven fitted with standard 6v DAF 44 engine which I want to convert to 12v. Which alternator will fit easily? I don't want a separate regulator/rectifier.

Daf 46 cars used an identical engine to the 44, and were fitted with an alternator, I'd look into which alternator is normally fitted to a 46. Why not stick with the 6 volt system? As well as the alternator, many other electrical parts will need changing, such as: lightbulbs, windscreen wiper motor, indicator flasher unit, dashboard lights (fiddley!) low hold ratio switch, battery, starter motor, petrol gauge, horn, starter solenoid and interior light, to name but a few. I would tentatvely suggest keeping the 6 volt system, but ensure it's working properly. A U.S.B. connection will work on 6 volts, allowing a mobile 'phone to be charged in the car, together with the satnag, if needed.
Six volt systems are a little weaker than 12 volt ones, but with a small car like a Daf 44 the differences are marginal.
