Does anyone know a supplier or alternative part for these? Sian was moving the car today and it looked a little, err, bouncy. Leant on the back wings when she parked up and there's no damping at all that I can see - a good 5 or 6 bounces to stop

hi joe.
they are different to my 44 rear shocks but from pictures it may be worth you comparing yours to mini front shocks as they do look quite similar and should be about the right size.
keep an eye on ebay as well as i think i have seen some on there before.
happy hunting.

Cheers, Paul - the mini ones do look close on size but, from memory, the original mini ones had very limited movement - there's only something like 3" total travel in mini suspension. Really don't want to risk them bottoming out I have seen some on the French ebay site for 204 Euro's (gulp) For that price, I think I'll find a way to rebuild the existing (can't be worse than they are, and they seem to have passed the last MOT like that!) Think Jonh's suggestion of take one to a factors looks like the way forward - Monroe do offer a "select by size and fitting" sort of thing on their site, but it won't load for me. Plus, if a factor gets it wrong then they can replace - if I give a wrong part number they don't have to.

When I first bought my 33 I found some at an autojumble for £20 (reduced to £10 the pair) and I was told that they had loads of sets of them. Typical! If I see them again I'll see if they still have them - might be worth getting as many sets as we can afford!

Since you are in the UK and I am here......I found a gas filled replacement shock for the original at NAPA Auto Parts for about $15.00. Joe, I am sure if you took one with you to a parts store they can match it up quickly (the NAPA units, part # 90437, are made by by Monroe, which is available in the UK) John John, how close is that NAPA part? Looking at their site, it's quoted at 1 3/8" longer closed than the one I've pulled (assuming they measure from the hole centre to the stem "step"). No guarantee that the one in my hand is original but if it is, could get problems with it bottoming out with that much difference?

Thanks for that, John. Still having trouble finding a match here - most UK factors don't seem to hold the stock that places like NAPA do. They can "order by tomorrow", but that's no good when you want them to order one of everything so you can try to match it Meanwhile, Danny @ dafhobby may have some serviceable used stock and, if all else fails, AVO shocks (one of the boy-racer nova pimping companies) say they can make adjustable rate one-off builds for about £70 a unit. Not too bad for an off-the-shelf adjustable shock, let alone a special!

Don't forget that similar to the NAPA ones are listing at around 25 GB POUNDS over here though, John. A lot of car (and PC) parts seem to work like that - think of a price in dollars, add a bit & put a £ sign in front! And given that they were talking about making the cartridge itself as a custom - not just bolting on end fittings (they're shorter than anything listed now) - the price didn't seem too bad if it has to be
