hi all,
i have noticed that i am loosing transmission oil from the gear shift lever (forward/reverse lever) on the gear box at the back on my 33. is the seal easy to change? and i presume there will be a worn bush too? are both available?
Best wishes, Eric.

Hi,I have never changed one.How bad is the leak? many of the 33's I have worked on leaked a little from this point on the primary unit.Mine leaks a little but it is such a small loss I have'nt even had to top up yet. There are specialist suppliers of all types of oil seal, but you will need to remove the old one to get the sizes. starider.

Hi Starider, finally someone has answered! LOL not sure how bad it is but looks like its been leaking for a very long time, the car was stood for 25 years before i got it and it looks like it was leaking when last used by all the oil/dirt stuck to the transmission cover, i am not using the car yet so cant say how bad it is really. i am just a little concerned that it will get on the belts, guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it when i start driving it. i have a workshop manual but it covers nothing on the little gear box (other than topping up). Best wishes, Eric.

Hi again,I have read your comments. If in my Daf workshop days I had a car with this type of leak, I would have cleaned the Primary Unit and surrounding area with Gunk or similar de-greaser,cleaned the under-tray,topped up the P.unit and sent the customer on his way with a request to check for drips.Usually after 3,300 miles when the car came in for service we would find evidence of a very slight leak with no transferal onto the belts. We never had a leak severe enough to consider replacing the seal.It was just checked at every service and topped up when necessary.Oil only leaks out when forward or reverse is selected, once you let go of the selector lever, pressure is removed from the seal and oil will not leak. Please note the "little" gear box is the Primary Unit and the one on each rear wheel is the Secondary Unit. Regards starider.
