Hey, it's me again. I just had my insurance renewal for Little Belter (33). It's £173.79 which I think is a tad too much. It is with LV but I'd rather have her insured with a classic car insurance. As I have more than one, does anyone k now of a good one which would let you have more than one car on the policy?

I don't know about multi policies, V, but we got ours through Lancaster Insurance ( www.lancaster-ins.co.uk ). Fully comp for me AND Sian with a brand new licence at £152. That included about £78 for insurance, £30 for breakdown cover, £16 legal cover and £15 for agreed valuation. As far as I know, they're all optional bits but at that price just accepted the whole package - figured the breakdown cover was worth the extra on its own. I just carry tools, but it's not fair to expect Sian to drive it without at least tow-home cover. If they'll do the insurance on its own you should be looking at around the £90 - £100 mark. That's on a 6k mileage limit on the "Delta scheme". Their customer services line is 01480 484806 & would be worth giving them a call for a quote. Joe

For many years, I've arranged my DAF classic car insurance through Footman James (www.footmanjames.co.uk)
My 33, fully comp and with breakdown recovery service, was about £95 this year, with unlimited mileage. I asked whether there was a reduction for having a limit, and they said that they tend not to impose limited miles on classic cars - certainly like ours - now.

Just had a quote of Footman James for £93.90. Sounds a lot better. Thanks.

That's probably as good as it gets! Did try them, but as soon as I mentioned putting someone with a brand-new licence on the policy they went very quiet at the end of the line. Mind you, when I phoned yesterday to have Sian added, even the Lancaster rep sounded quite surprised when the screen confirmed there was no extra to pay!

hi.
within my family there are about 7 classic cars with different family members and we all use footman james as nobody else comes close.
£93-£98 seems to be their quote for any car in any area though. ;D ;D

I have got some enquiries going with my current insurer (AON) to see how much extra the variomatic addition would be

I had a quote through.. and a near heart attack, they want 370 quid a year!
I've been driving safely for 5 years, and still no discount.
Grumble

Is that through your current or as a separate policy through a specialist, Onne? A lot of the mainstream insurers either quote silly or won't quote at all on cars of this age.
They seem to treat them as high-risk because of the reduced "safety features", happily ignoring the fact that the biggest safety feature in any car is the driver - which is likely to be a far more advanced model in a classic.

hi
another major factor with safety of old cars is that most of them tend to do less mileage in a year than a "normal" family car does in a WEEK. far less chance of damage.

It's on a separate classic car policy, they won't allow it to go on with my Minor as it is insured through the club scheme.

I've just been quoted 230 quid a year, with Lancaster.
Has anyone got any experience with changing insurers halfway down the year?
