I was having a browse through the Haynes manual for Sheila to get an idea of stuff I might do when the weather brightens - In particular, if I'm getting the head off I thought I might be tempted to put a new timing chain on for good measure. Obviously, being OHV, it doens't get disturbed during the head pull but if she's disabled for a day or so.... Anyway, I had a look at the relevent section and found these instructions: Now, maybe I'm missing something but, if it's still in the car..............

Yes, 'then simply remove the crankshaft through the end of the exhaust pipe...'

I remember having the same trouble whilst attempting a 2-day alternator change on a Saab 9000.
The photos and procedures were obviously done with the engine completely removed from the body.
Not terribly helpful!
I only keep Haynes manuals for reference - always best to go to the forums where people who have actually HAD to to perform these kinds of procedures exist.
The best DAF book I have, albeit not one that is terribly technical, is an Autobooks one which explains everything extremely clearly (not the standard blue Kenneth Ball one). Easy to read and understand, and written by someone who actually has a desire to share knowledge, it would appear.......
For someone who loses interest when the number of bolts removed is greater than the number of fingers on one hand, it's excellent. You actually know WHY you're checking certain things.

hi.
my uncle used to own the Audi 80 that was allegedly used and photographed to make the haynes manual.
after a number of years, the fuel pump relay packed in and tha manual was pulled out. the photos showed very clarly where the relay was located behind the dash on the left, complete with descriptions and arrows pointing to the relay. when we looked on the car we could see the all wiring shown in the photos APART from the relay. we checked every listed location for the relay on all models and variants but NEVER found the relay. so much for photographic evidence.....
Haynes book of lies is right.

Same goes for the Daf 33, try taking the rear drive unit out, use the original Daf work shop manual and its right forget, the others.
