Just been for a drive in my Daily Driver a 2007 VW Golf and it got me thinking of a this topic Being a very Modern Car you would expect the transmission to be nice and smooth? err No Granted past 2nd you would never even know it was changing gear (unless you show it a hill ) but from a standstill its awful engaging 1st and then going to 2nd i have tried to alter my driving to make things smoother and it has helped a little but i must say some automatic transmissions these days are truly awful I used to have a Nissan Micra with CVT and that was SO Rapid away from the lights and very smooth and i swear you could drive it up the side of a building (if you tried ;D ) I test drove a BMW a few weeks ago and that was SO smooth It appears though these days if your buying a new Auto you need a thorough test drive as some transmission can shake you bones apart while others can make you almost sea sick And as for Semi Auto they are Worse My partner had a Citroen with Sensodrive which had a mind of its own once nearly causing a RTA when its electronics selected "N" on a busy Roundabout at Rush Hour Im Hoping When i get a Daf the Transmission will be like my Old Micra ;D Things are supposed to advance but it seems Auto Transmissions are going Backwards and getting Worse Huggz Jodie

DAF transmission is incredibly smooth. Ive heard a few people liken driving a DAF to piloting a speed boat

I agree - the DAF, being stepless, in splendidly smooth.
The autobox on my 9000 is a little fussy, but doesn't jerk as such - but it's not quite as imperceptible as my Chevrolet Astro - probably owing to the weight!

Hi Folks I must admit I am an auto freak, had auto's for the last 18 years, pug 605 diesel auto, Camry 3 Ltr V6 auto and of cause my Daf 33. Just treated myself and bought a new Kia Sportage CRDT auto, all been superb. Joloke10 my Pug 605 started to get a bit lumpy after 200k miles had it serviced and set up by autobox company and what a difference maybe worth having you VW done.
Bob.
