Having had both of our speedo cables break (again) in the past couple of months, I've been hunting for an alternative. The VW Beetle 1302 / 1303 ('70 ; '79) cable, part number 142-957-801C, is a very easy fit and easily available just about anywhere. Here's how it works: www.dafmobile.ournet.org.uk/index.php/page/37.html

That's a great report Joe and I am always full of admiration for individuals who are willing to find workarounds for the benefit of the rest of us when we will inevitably need to do the same job with ours! ;D Thankfully my speedo's still going strong despite a general reluctance to read speeds under 15-20mph when it eventually springs into life. Bit like her owner I suppose! ;D ;D

Great job Joe, not much of a problem than the original. Did you seal the cable where it went into the guide tube, hot glue gun would be my choice.
Bob.

Good point about the sealing, Bob, no I didn't. I meant to run some silicone round it when I finished but forgot - by the time it was fitted I just wanted to get the spanners away and have a cold drink after the last couple of days Shouldn't be too much of a problem seeing as the inner is covered and runs all the way to the hub face but will only take minutes if I remember tomorrow to be on the safe side

No problem at all with posting it across, John. I really should get over there more often myself but I'm afraid I seem to end up everywhere but lately
