Ok, I'm the world's biggest cynic when it comes to "new, improved, patent-pending blah blah blah" but I stumbled across this today: www.trackace.co.uk/index.htmlIt's not available yet and they're looking for marketing feedback to try and get it into production. Now, with my cynic controls set to maximum, I actually can't see any reason at all that it wouldn't work and, at the expected £39.95, I can't see any reason I wouldn't want one if it does. So am I missing something that one of the more qualified cynics amongst you might spot?

Im actually thinking that is very very good idea. My cynic hat tells me though that a comercial garage floor is flat and a driveway or road is probably not which means setting the thing up wont be as easy as depicted. So how can they gaurantee accuracy especially when you consider the cowboy attitude of many owner maintainers. One particular one is spring to mind and he recently sold 2 1300s both had some seriously bad work done on them. Saying that though I would probably by one as its probably worth while

Well, with my cynic hat on Joe.....Rover does need her tracking doing but her steering is so vague anyway it doesn't make much odds! As for wasting fuel, well she is a V8 with a 4 barrell 350cfm Holly carb so I'm kind of used to it by now! ;D Tracking is low down on the list of jobs to be done right now!

At that sort of price, if it saves a tyre or 2 it could pay for its self very quickly. If it uses batteries I hope they put a cigar lighter plug on it or battery crock leads. But like most guages or instruments it needs to tell you simply and quickly what is wrong! Now where is my rope with the knots in it!!!

hi.
seems good.
it does not say what you do with different width vehicles though. as long as that can be allowed for then i would consider buying this system.
i must admit i normally use string with knots in it but a decent system for a good price would be quite useful.

The theory is that different widths don't matter, Paul, because the measurement is always taken over the (set) distance from the o/s wheel to the scale rather than across the width of the vehicle.
I must admit that, if it does make it to the market place, I'll be seriously tempted to give it a try at that price. Not least because, when I need it, I'm very unlikely to find that I've used it to tie something together (unlike string that always gets used for "something else") ;D

having used garage ones back when I was a mechanic they operated on exactly that principle... to me that would be well worth the 40 quid and I for one would get one.. if all the batteries are powering is that little lazer dot then they will last years..
