Hi V8 and welcome! The learning curve may be steep, but it's not all that high simply because there really isn't all that much to these cars. Their simplicity (once you get over the natural fear of a vacuum-controlled infinitely variable belt drive) is one of their best points, especially on the aircooled ones There's plenty of info already on here when you need it. Most questions have already been asked (and most swear words already used as things go wrong!) at some point and there's always someone around to answer any problems you might come up against!

Welcome to the forum V8 from a fellow 33 owner. The aircooled Dafs are certainly the most charismatic in my opinion although I was once told the 33 'is like a demanding girlfriend who sulks when she doesn't get what she wants!' and my experience with my 33 has fitted that analagy perfectly! Somehow you just forgive them as their such a hoot to drive! ;D However, Joe's, sorry Sian's Betty just seems to soldier on. Maybe mine's had a hard life so with 17k on the clock you'll hopefully be ok! You'll certainly get lots of help on here and depending on your location there may be a Daf centre near you. We love pictures on this forum, by the way!

Welcome V8 I hope your 33 has the same effect on you as it does on me. you sit at the traffic lights and the bloke to the right of you looks at you in his £ 30 k+ all singing and dancing bird puller, your 33 sounds like a well oil singer sewing machine, throbing like a good 2 cylinder should, you smile at him and on the green light shoot off in a cloud of Halfords Vintage car oil smoke leaving him with watering eyes and grinding first gear!!! Hope you have many happy and funny times with your 33. My only advice to you would be to strip the brake wheel cylinders as they have not move much in a long time and the bores may be a bit rough, they will work for a while but will start leaking.
Regards
Bob.

Hehe Bob. So true! A 55 has even more of an effect on them. I remember back in the 80s when "the must have car of the moment for a certain type" was the Ford Escort XR3i. Many was the time when I would ensure that I was always in the nearside lane at traffic lights etc, especially when at the front of the queue, then wait for everyone to pull out into the right lane ready for the off.
Then the lights would change and with no effort at all... whoosh!
I've been doing similar things in the 340 on the odd occasion recently, too.
(So use the Halfords too? Is it the one in the green can with pics of 60s car on? I think 20w/50?)

Thats the one Richard, in the old fashioned green metal gallon can, or should I be PC and say 5 litres? And the green machine seems to like it too.
Bob.

Hmm, that's the oil I used in Gavina before her terminal engine failure and it was mooted here that the oil may have been to blame. The plot thickens...
