Dilly, my yellow 44 Estate, has developed an oil leak. This takes the form of a fine mist which emenates, I think, from the front of the crankshaft. The whole of the front of the engine room gets covered in mist and droplets form which coalesce into a steady leak beneath. My tame garage has cleaned the area and deshrouded the oil cooler - which is not leaking anywhere - we all suspect failure of the front crankshaft oil seal. Does anyone have a nice new one please and is it possible to replace same without engine out and splitting the crank case? My Haynes does not look hopeful about this! Help please from one of you eminences grises.
When cured of this disease I propose to acquire a nice new M.O.T. and then offer Dilly for sale. She is otherwise in cracking good shape - no rust still - some of you will remember her from the past. There will be a number of spares thrown in as I am cutting back my collection of Dafs from five to zero!
Best Regards - Marcus.

Hi Marcus Could be a number of items?unusual for oil seal to fail! Check the following: 1. have you over filled it? 2. oil seperator under the rubber cover by the oil filler, is it blocked, or return pipe broken? 3. Check compressions if not the same , have you broken a piston ring? 4. oil coolers have been known to have developed a pin hole leak, cleanoff and check. Other leaks on these units are normally on the push rod tubes or cylinder head studs seals, but this normally puts oil to the rear of the engine or drops under neath the engine. Hope this will help you to track down the area where the problem is.
