Hi All i have just rebuilt my engine in my coupe, the thing is that it is a volvo 66 1300 engine and as i have had to remove my distributer i will have to reset the timing, i know that it is 6+ btdc not zero as the 1100cc models were. so which mark do i use if i set it up to for 6+ btdc ther are 3 of them "0 then two other markings" any idea? as i will be using a strobe, it does run and i have also just fitted a new set of points and condenser. someone has put a white line on zero is that right??

Hi Paul Hope you and the family are well, shame we are not closer I have a strobe timing light that you set at TDC and then set on the dial 6 or how many degrees BTDC, works very well. Not so hot on the 66 engine, but it should start on top dead centre or if the other marks are before the "0" mark on the pulley if you turn it in the direction the engine runs then at least the first mark before "0" should be no more than 5 degrees BTDC should run better at that. The 33 running better this end and getting faster and maybe less noise or I am going deaf!!! Will be at the Classic car gathering at Lupin farm Nr Allrewas on the 19th August not a bad day out for all if the weather improves?
Best regards Bob Scrivens.

HI Guys, nice to hear from you both, i removed more rust from the flywheel and found the 6 mark, had ago with the strobe and set it up best i could but it ran crap so i guessed and now it runs better than ever!, i was told years ago to turn the distributer to advance from a retarded position until the engine rev's rise to their higest point (before starting to get lumpy) then just retard it again slightly so that they just drop and this is normally ok, well it seems happy with that, never had ago with the bulb trick how positive is that?
i will see if i can make it to yourr event bob if the weather is ok!! every event that i have booked into or attended as been canceled or a wash out!
Today i have had a new problem in that i have had no brake lights, i found that the switch was faulty and had to get a new one, i have found that the mk1 golf fits fine and works! We will get there in the end.
has anyone seen the daf 44 which is on ebay for spares, i have contacted them to ask if they will sell it if there is no taker for spares but they said it would just be crushed, shame
Paul
ps bob are you coming on thursday night to the do at monks kirby?
