Hi all remember that yellow 44 that we got as part of the deal to get biddy back? well it was to go to a chap in October but i never heard anything from him and he didnt reply to my emails, i didnt want to scrap it as it was too good to break but needed a lot of work to sort it out. my dad has been going on at me about it being in front of the garage where he parks his car so it was due to go to the scrap yard in December, i would have broke it for spares but after nylo got cut up i got plenty from that one already. then in December i got an email from daydoodler (Matts friend who had the 33) asking if he could take the car, after a few emails he told me he wished to pick the car up on the 6th of February of which he kept to his word and collected it today bang on time. i just want to wish Bob luck with the project and hope that it see's the road again

Hi all First of all I must thank Paul Dafdaffer for his gift of the 44 and his help in towing it out of its resting place and loading onto the trailer. The journey back to Cornwall took 5 and a half hours and was very windy we got blown about a bit. My wife and I were talking on the way back and I said all the lads on the Forum had names for their cars, I threw a couple of names around, she listened and then said I think we will call her Dolly the Daf. I was speechless, usually when I have driven or dragged something home she has come out ,folded her arms, looked at the sky and gone in again (sound familiar). She usually refers to my aquisitions as IT, Thing, or that Wreck. So to say I think We should call Her Dolly ,Things are looking up Anyway I had a good look over her today and she is better than I was expecting ,she has had a wash and is in the garage ready to start , will keep you posted

Welcome to the forum Bob and good luck with the restoration. I'll look forward to hearing how you're progressing. By the way, my wife is exactly the same as yours when it comes to my cars but is rather fond of the Daf. It must be a Daf thing!

Welcome Bob! It's funny but Dafs do seem t have that effect on people - we'd still be driving round in a boring modern thing if Sian hadn't seen a photo of a Daf 33 and told me she was having one! We now have 2 and one for the "teenager" (no longer really a teenager, but it's one of the more polite labels we use for her ;D ) Really look forward to hearing how it goes with Dolly - in case you haven't noticed on certain other threads, we like updates round here

What a hero towing that 300 odd miles!
Your 33 is still going strong. Despite weather related neglect on my part. It snowed again this weekend so another week goes by without taking the old girl out.
It might be my only vehicle soon! Commuting everyday in a 40 year old car again is going to be interesting.

Hi all Have just joined the DOC and received my copy of the magazine, a very good read. I was interested in the article by Tony March as I worked at Perkins Diesels myself from 1960 to 1968 before moving to Cornwall in 1971. If Tony worked in the experimental dept he would know my father who was the foreman in there for many years Bill Bradley , small world Dolly is progressing slowly at the moment we have just had a new conservatory built so I am receiving instructions to do with paint brushes will take some more 44 photos soon

Hi All you may have thought that dolly was gone and forgotten, but things have been
happening slowly. I semi retired recently and the boss lady (SWMBO) insisted we rdeecorate the
whole bungalow inside and out which included knocking down the kitchen/diner wall. The DAF
progressed very slowly and I did manage to strip her down for a proper inspection and make a list of
wants. I mailed a list to Matt at Essex Dafs and arranged to drive to Colchester with my trailer.
We had a very enjoyable weekend and brought back a trailer full. My new years resolution was to get
started on Dolly again and the photos are Januarys results. Rust has been cut out of the floor and
new welded in, I have used the top section of the old rotted boot lid as repair sections Have been
working outside as the weather has been cold but sunny (this is Cornwall, missed all the white stuff)
Anyway will keep you up to date wih progress

if you look up my thread on my daf on here it shows in some detail about the sil structures on these cars as it is a bit NOT the norm if you know what I mean

Hi Nick it must have been another weekend as we did not camp, but am sure we will meet up some
time Followed your saga of the 46. I knew sills would not be easy, but have plenty of mig wire and
lots of hammers, but most of all I now have the time to do a proper job.

Many thanks Paul for sorting out my mess will get the hang of puting pictures on before I make any
more horrors. I am doing what I can outside with welding when the weather is ok, am concentrating on
the o/side jacking points at the moment , when wet am getting other parts ready as photos
thought the rust under the vacuum switch mount was an unusual place to corrode, any water entering
here would go straight behind the dash and into the footwell, may explain the rot
have got the bit between the teeth now so will crack on

your welding skills demand respect, having done a daf myself I know how thin they can be, even though the metal quality is very high. Your motivation is impressive none the less. Keep up the good work ! seeing your headlight hole repairs brings back memories !!!!

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment DeletedSome more pix, went on a lot easier now I have reduced the no of pixels on the camera picture shows the secondary after repair i think sometime it had had a broken half shaft replaced and the two halves put together without the dowel pins in place as it had thrown all its oil out. Had to strip it to replace the oil seals. Welded up a three legged puller to hold the outer cone spring in place all good fun more soon
