Today saw me become the proud new owner of a Mushy V, or more commonly known as a 'very green Volvo 66GL estate' formerly belonging to Andrew in Essex. The overall first impressions were good. The body looks pretty d**n good with very minor issues here and there. I could only spot a broken wing indicator (you know, the lonnng one on the drivers side), a little bit of rustiness by one of the wiper spindles, a couple of little bubbles here and there and the worst bits seem to be the bottom lip of the tailgate and a patch required for the inner rear wheel arch/end of the sill bit. A 2" square patch will see that sorted. Interior is nice in a typically Volvo way, the seats look tres comfy and seem to be very similar to 340 items, but I could be wrong. The car is a non-runner at present but with a borrowed battery and a new fuel pump she almost started but didn't want to catch. A few basic service items will find thier way onto her in the next few weeks. The brakes will require an overhaul and I am not sure how solid the exhaust is but it is all fixable. I think new wiper blades will be on the list too. The load space with the rear seats folded is very handy indeed and will be put to good use. There is a query about the location of a couple of pipes but I have no doubt that Pete or Matt will add more info. Matts interesting 'Bodie and Doyle' driving style entrance to the farm yard caused some disruption to the day but nothing fatal ;D ;D ;D Photos and updates to follow on that little episode to follow methinks. Overall she seems a really nice car and I am looking forward to her being back on the road hopefully later in the summer if not sooned. Cheers Ken

Well bought that man! The Mushy Vee is a delightful little car and hopefully will soon be putting a very big smile on your face. Full report coming soon on the ED thread.

Just had a flick through the history that came with the car and found a failure list dated June 10th 2010:
N/S headlamp excessively deteriorated O/S same as above Indicator switch faulty Rear exhaust has a major leak of gases O/S front mecanical brake component has restricted free movement N/S Steering arm has relative movement at it's fixings O/S same as above Nearside outer sill has a sharp edge due to corrosion Offside outer same as above Nearside rear 1/4 panel as above Offside rear 1/4 panel as above Offside rear shock absorber has a serious fluid leak Nearside shock absorber not functioning
Not as bad as I thought, I doubt that any work was done as the tax disk expired around then too.

Ken,that's not to bad and stuff we can sort over a few weeks..i`m sure we have it all in stock,shocks prob better buy new and of course there will be no charge ...or was that an order worth £200 ;D ;D

The shocks aren't vastly expensive. There are some on the bay at the moment but funds are short until I get paid. Have just bought some proper Lucas points. I will ask within the Club for other service items. Not sure what will be required for the steering stuff. I think I will need ED advice on those bits.

Wel, I think I have all of the major bits including a set of rear shocks. Things like headgasket sets and water pumps are pretty cheap on ebay too. Progress will be made. I popped over to the storage facility a few weeks ago and took some piccies. Here you go: I spent a couple of hours at the overflow facility today and did some purely cosmetic stuff on the Mushy Vee. Here is a little 'before' picture: A bit sad and dusty isn't she. Here are some 'inbetween' pictures: An annoying dent showing the damaged wing repeater. Replacements to original spec are pretty hard to come by, so a couple of alternative one's will need to be found. What lies beneath (front O/S sill): And t'other side: Slight hole at the N/S rear: That seems to be it with regards to the underneath bits. Not too horrible to be honest. The bit below the Ovlov badge is grotty (and the lip behind that as well) and will need fixing at some point. A teensy bit of rust at the base of the rear pillar: A scab on the rear O/S wheel arch: Slightly tatty but otherwise solid! Tank looks a bit sorry for itself, not sure about it's leak-proofness: The front end looks solid enough but the various chips and stuff will need to be dealt with: Oh look, shiney paint! And after: Bye Bye little Mushy. See you soon! So there you go. The paintwork came up pretty well with a bit of cutting and claying. The stick on side strips will be coming off but I will need the services of a hairdryer for that. What does need doing appears pretty minimal, but with all this car and old, I have no doubt that other things will appear. The wheels will need blasting and powder coating as well. The interior just had a very basic wipe over. Things that need doing: I have the service items and a battery lurking somewhere, so that will contribute to getting her running at some point. She will need a set of wiper blades, an interior light cover, a bloomin' good vacuuming out and a good scrub. The drivers seat didn't want to tilt forward, so that will need looking at. Seat covers will be required as the vinyl has started to split/tear in places too. The rear section of the exhaust needs replacing. The brakes will need an overhaul. I think the drivers window needs looking at and possibly one of the column switches might be kaput. Not the end of the world and once on the road she will be an eye-catching and rather practical car. I think it will have to stay anyway, unless a new rear window is found.
There were numerous "complaints" from people that so good was the glue, that it was nigh on impossible to remove the stickers.
People who put them on their modern cars were worried about devaluing the part exchange values. Honestly.

The ones you took out ;D Seriously, from the point of view of getting it up and running, you should be fine cleaning and gapping the ones that are in there - 'Tilly's still on the Champion ones that were fitted back in the '70s! Boris' are only 10 or so years old by comparison As she heads back towards the road, I'm not sure what the suggested ones are but I'll look it up and let you know (got xrefs here for most of the old numbering systems)

Ok Joe, fair enough. I have purchased bits to replace what went AWOL now, so I should be able to pop over to the overflow early Aug to do some more fettling.
