Hello folks. This is my first attempt to post a message as I've just joined up. My name is Marty and I've recently discovered the DAF 33. I bought my first DAF last week and I'm eager to find out more about them and hopefully get my car back on the road. As I'm only 27 I've encountered quite a few jokes about my purchase but I don't care what they say. It's to be enjoyed and taken to show I hope. And, it's good to be different. It's a 1969 sedan and I hope to get the year of build etc verified. It has had 1 owner and sits with 31k on the clock. It's a lovely shade of brown and has been sitting up possibly for nearly 10yrs. After a new battery and a new coil we managed to get the little beast into life again but soon realised further parts are required. To get to the point I need a new complete exhaust and an Air filter. Can anyone help. I live in N.Ireland but postage etc can't be that big a problem surely .

congrats on the new find. i have just put a 44 bought last year on the road after 20 years parked up and know what you are going through as the exhaust is shot on mine as well. as long as the heat exchange/j tubes are ok then you should be alright. the first silencer going across should be ok to remove and have welded up (mine looked like a tea strainer) and i found that the exhaust from an old mini can be cut/welded to fit as needed for the rest. the sound is not to loud even if the front silencer has nothing left in it. this may be an alternative to having something custom made, and while some of the purists may not like it as it is not original, at least the car is running. i was lucky that my heat exchangers were still ok so i cannot help you there but good luck with the car and if there are any other problems let us know.. paul

HI Folks, it might be worth going to a stainless exhaust manufacturer to get one, they take your old one then remake it for you, i think that it may cost around £250 but you will never need a new one plus they are guarented for life.
failing that contact danny at DAF Hobby he has them availible. im not sure of his email adress but if you look through the disscusions on this forum i think that it has been posted before.

Thanks lads. I've managed to contact Danny and he can supply the complete system so I might try that. Perhaps it will add to the originality of the car also. It will hopefully be getting dry use and as its garaged it should last for a few years. All being well. Does anyone know how many 33's are left out there? They seem quite rare compared to the usual number of Elf's, Mini's and Anglia's etc. Thanks for the advice once again.

Welcome to DAF 33 ownership. We own very cool n groovy cars!
I'd recommend a stainless exhaust system for the long run. I got mine a few years ago from our club, ably fitted by Mr DAFfer!
Re how many 33s are left. Sorry don't know for certain, but it is probably dozens, not hundreds.
I assume you are in the UK? Look out for Practical Classics April issue. There should be a little feature about 33s - and maybe even some pics of my "Blue Bullet"!
Keep us posted.

I am indeed Richard mate. Live in N.Ireland so not that far off really. Now I'm being tempted with the idea of a stainless system maybe. I'll try and get some pics soon maybe. The little car has a cream interior which is in great nick including the rubber floor mats. One less area to work on. It's had one lady owner before she passed on and the car was parked in a barn surrounded by straw bales. As a result someone decided to use the roof as a shelf thus putting some small dents in it. Not to worry though. It's nothing major. The 31k miles are believed genuine and overall it isn't too bad for a car which has been off the road for almost 30yrs. It has spent the last 10 in a dry garage after leaving the barn i've been told.
