I am suffering with a circulation problem with my legs, which has stopped me walking to far and has stopped me keeping a check on the local walks and wildlife. I started to investigate as I am not ready for a mobility scooter yet and came to the concusion an electric bike was the answer. Check the reviews and forums, and setteled on a folder so I can put it in the back of the car to shows and places then bomb round upsetting the locals!!! Finally pick one up on Ebay for a bargain, Electrics not working but soon sorted that out, 15 MPH at lease 10 mile range minimum, and 10p to charge it. Should have got one years ago, thinking of moding to get 20 MPH and 30 mile range!!!!

I've also got an 'elecky bike'. Not a foldaway one though. Something called an iZip mountain bike style. Can't seem to figure the bloomin' thing out. It's just gathering dust at the moment.

I'm sure you're on the right track Bob. I still ride i.c. mopeds but they all need tax, insurance and MOTs . This is fun but expensive. The Solex is a super shopping bike but as it is '05 reg. it is very dear to insure. My other mopeds are all on one classic policy. I'm sure that electric power will claim me as another adherent soon. It is germane that one does not need a driving licence. This may become important if or when my unwelcome but presently mild affliction with Parkinsons disease increases in severity.

Hi I am getting into this E-bike thing, pick up another on for peanuts last weekend and all it needed was the electrics sorting out and a bit of TLC, this one a lot lighter and very simple to use. If they can get the price lower and improve the capacity to weight of the batteries, it could be a market for the future to be in.
P.S Kenr make sure you keep you batteries on E-bike well charged and in a warmish place, seems to be where a lot of people make the mistake, next thing they need a new battery £250 + to replace

Electric bikes can be cool too, like this one at last year's Clacton Classic Car Show.

My uncle owned a bike with an electric motor on it when I was younger. This was ages ago, but it is something I still remember as an adult. This had me thinking a couple of years ago about finding a device for my bike, as well. I was amazed to see that there is actually an entire industry that develops and sells motors for bicycles now days. Back then there weren't any companies that developed and sold motors for bikes and many people like my uncle created home made versions from parts found in nearly any garage. The good news with modern motors is that these companies have a vested interest in providing a quality product. I hope the bike motor works well for you once you get it up and running.

Hi rebel75 yes the E-bike market is starting to move like computers do, 12 months old and they have been superseded with new smaller and lighter kit. With the internet you can now buy kits or equipment from all over the world. Some of the techies in the pedelec field have 2 and sometimes 3 motors on their specials. Both mine are now working very well the Cyclamatic foldaway is a nice easy cruiser with a range of about 25 miles the other is more for fun and a range of about 40 miles (depending on wind and hills and how lazy I am)
Bob.

We had an e-bike shop set up in town a few years back - they also sold the electric mopeds too - some fab designs and retro bike looks - rather like a Lambretta for instance. Sadly, despite being in an area with over 30 miles of traffic free cycle paths - the shop didn't last long. Wouldn't have minded one though.
