Pushed back into a corner until next weekend when hopefully we will drop the engine back in and she might finally move under her own power. I was surprised how the 3-4 paint dregs my uncles mixed up to paint the feed hopper in the background was an almost perfect match for DAF Marina blue, the car blends in nicely with its background.

Did finally get all the interior back in, just need to rivet the kick plates in to hold the carpet in place.

Well she keeps throwing problems up. Went to drop the engine back in now the clutch has been sorted, and the bearing that was fine 3 weeks ago in the back of the clutch bell housing is now grinding and making a hell of a noise! Engine drop halted another week, hopefully next Sunday.
The clutch, new and old.

Another weekend and finally some proper progress.
Engine all fitted up ready for dropping back into car
All went in very smoothly and by lunch time was all in place and ready to turn the key.
Fired up all ok and for the first time in my ownership I was able to start in forward and not have the car shoot off, and when I did accelerate a nice smooth take up.
Could not resist a little drive down the cart track at the farm, first time the speedo has read something in a few years.

Been a while since any activity on the 66 due to various other commitments, buts she's back out the shed, new number plate and refurbished wheels and tyres on last night. Got some friends coming up at the weekend to sort the electrics then so long as we get to the bottom of them, MOT next week to be taxed beginning of October. Well that's the plan, everything crossed.

Well done! I bet yours will be the FIRST Daf registered that won't have to display a tax disc, as the law on displaying a valid disc changes tomorrow! Your 66 will make history!

I went to post office last night to tax it to start from today and it was very odd walking out without a physical tax disc in my hand.
Drive her to work today and it was glorious!

First teething troubles have arisen. Think a vacuum leak on vario. Very slow to change up. At 30 it sometimes feels like your in about 2nd gear in a manual car, but at 50-60 feels great, also going down hill it does not change up it actually changes down. With the hill decent button pressed or break peddle pressed at stand still the engine revs slightly drop instead if increase slightly so I suspect something is amiss.

If not already done, set the timing and then adjust the mixture. Mine used to drop revs when the hill decent button was pressed, but with the mixture screw in the right position it works correctly.
As for the change up/down, mine stays more or less at a constant rpm right up the speed range. When I used to drive a 44 it could be helped to move up by easing the throttle, and upon reaching cruising speed there was a noticeable drop in revs. 66s are more revvy by all accounts.

My only previous daf driving was my 44, that used to rev like anything as accelerate, reach say 30, ease off and it would change right up and revs dropped to what a "normal" manual or auto would sound like at that speed, so it might just be the 66 is a more revvy car. The emissions test at the not said it was running v lean, so that might be why the revs drop, will have a look at it tonight and see how she behaves when I richern up the mixture.

Ooops sorry - Citroenboy just replied to this about his revs rising (which they should, by the way) but something technical happened and it appeared loads of times - and I hit the delete key once too often!
I'll head to a corner now.
