Hi All, Just though id start a thread on the return to the road of my 66. Marina as she's been called is a 1975 66 SLHC finished in marina blue, she's done about 35,000 miles and been off the road since about 2006. There is a rally thing on the back seat dated 2005, so she was on the road then. She was another implosive eBay purchase, knowing there was a seized clutch and welding needed I still went ahead. A friend who works for the local scrap yard went and collected her on the yards flat bed lorry (I wonder how many people thought this was her last ride as it went past) as we needed the winch to drag her on. The engine was running lumpy and on 3 cylinders, not helped by diesel in the tank! We have since drained the tank, put new plugs and leads in and some fresh petrol and now running very sweetly. Now i'm awaiting my mechanic mate to come and collect her to do the welding and overhaul the breaks. Will keep you posted on any developments. John

Well she's been collected and taken to my mate who's doing the work. As she was loaded up I had a good look at the tyres that are on her, and I think the have seen better days, as well as possible being the originals still. He cracked on really quick and by the end of that day I had a long email from him of the needed parts he had initially found. Going over the next day he shows me what he found. The second picture showing what was left of the drivers side foot well which he had knocked off onto the floor. Being a Talbot / Simca specialist he was not looking forward to working on "one of those funny dutch cars", but did have to say how easy everything came off and very few nuts were seized. It was funny when looking through the break pad book that the part number of the pads for the 66 that they were the same as a Simca 1000/1100, which he had a brand new set in stock. Also when looking at the break pipes, the flexi hoses from a Talbot Horizon had the same fitting on both ends but were slightly longer then the DAF originals by about 1/2". So for a man not wanting to work on a DAF I told him you do carry a lot of the spares needed!

That will make a cracking car when done. At least B body Dafs seldom rot in the rear arches.
You are blessed to get on with the bodywork so soon, round here the good/capable bodyshops are booked up way in advance.

The guy doing this for me actually works for the local scrap yard and works on cars on his days off, the lorry he picked the car up on was actually the tow truck from the scrap yard, I wonder if anyone saw the 66 on the back thinking it was her last journey!
I have seen the body work and welding he did last year to a Talbot Alpine, which was missing a boot floor as well as both sills, car looked factory fresh by the time he was finished with it.

Could be the twin of a certain blue Daf at ED that I keep having lustful/wanty thoughts about.
Will be fab when all done and dusted. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Called in on the car again, and Colin has made more progress. He's got the engine running right, 2 of the HT leads had been put on the wrong way round. Once he got the engine running ok, he left it idling for about 10 mins which was followed by a loud bang which sounded like gun shot, proceeded by a blowing exhaust sound. When getting under the car and looking, we assume petrol vapour from the 2 cylinders not firing has built up in the centre box and ignited, causing the box to split open. New exhaust has been sourced from his local supplier who seemed very happy to be getting rid of his last 66 exhaust! While over I helped strip out the interior to reveal the rust in the drivers foot well. One thing I did realise was that the carpets were not beige and just very dirty, but are actually meant to be chocolate brown and are badly faded! Does anyone had a set of brown carpets? Once I removed the gear lever surround I could see the original colour. Also this is the rally plaque that was in the car, does anyone remember seeing this car there, or have a picture of it while there?

A trip down to Essex DAF central on Saturday afternoon with Colin proved very fruitful, we got the majority of the last parts needed, including the back panel off the scrap 66.

Looking very nice indeed John. So nice to see the offcuts from that dead 66 going to a good home and keeping another going.

I think I'm going to go for Fulkans, I've had these on my Xantia and very good tyres, cost about £32 each.

Been a while since an update, thanks to Matt and Eric a few weekends ago we got the engine out to see what state the clutch was in.
First carefully extract the engine using a forklift.

Then try to remove the clutch assembly, the bearing that came off with shaft was meant to be in the flywheel and was stuck solid to the shaft.
