Good Morning,
My name is Gianmarco. I write from Italy.
A friend of Venice gave me a Daf 44 of 1974 with electric 6 volt.
The car in general general is good. Not presente rust or corrosion but the body is to be placed for numerous bruises.
I need some parts, I do not know where to find them. Can you help? In Italy they are nowhere to be found ....
Tank you
Gianmarco

Hello. It is nice to have people from so many different countries here! What parts do you need? We supply drive belts and other small parts all over the world. Otherwise, there is a very helpful supplier of DAF parts in Holland, called DAF Hobby - www.dafhobby.nlI know that he (Danny) also supplies parts anywhere - and he has very large stocks. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I noticed that above the cylinders of the engine there are baffles removable thanks to the quick couplings. You have to keep all the 'year or you have to take off for the summer season? 2. What are the positions of the shift gear box? these are right? P R N D? Not the 'I still put in motion... Here is a picture of the Daf: imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/x2bx.jpg/imageshack.us/f/690/jf9x.jpg/Tank you. Gianmarco

Hello again Gianmarco, The picture is good and the car has a lot of potential.
To answer your questions: The "baffle" you refer to (plastic?) should only be used during the winter months. Having said that, I never use the one in my 33, although I rarely take the car out in the winter.
The gear selector - DAF Variomatic is not like other automatic cars. There are three positions: forward to go forward, back to reverse, and a central "neutral" position. Strange as it might seem, you should start the engine in either forward or reverse, except when doing maintenance on the car. If you start the car in neutral then try to engage drive or reverse, you are likely to hear bad grating noises! This will cause damage to the propshaft. If you start the engine in neutral, switch off, listen to hear the clutch stopping spinning, then engage forward or reverse and start again. (Once on the move, you can easily move from forward to reverse with the engine still on by gently but quickly moving the lever.
Hope this makes sense!
Finally, I think DAF Hobby will be able to help you with the lights.
Richard

Again thanks for your reply, dear Richard!
yesturday I picked up the new battery to 6 volts. I tried to make the setting in motion but the engine will not start. I checked and it does not get to the coil current. So no spark to the spark plugs.
You sugerimenti for me?
Thank you and good day!

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I am not really a technical expert so I think (hope) someone else may be able to help you out.
I do know though that often, 6volt cars are harder to start so it is very important that all your timing, mixture etc is correct.
Over to the teccies!

Dear Richiard,
Thank you very much for your time and allow me to l 'enormous help. To do the 'start I connected the positive battery terminal to the positive terminal of the coil. Still no spark to the spark plugs. Convinced that the coil does not work I 've landed and taken to a mechanic. We tried the coil over the counter and it works! Today, reassemble it.
The mechanic suggested me to scratch the surface of the pin (inside the distributor).
What do you think?
thank you very much
Gianmarco

Hi Gianmarco, DOC and DAFHobby are good places to locate spares, if you can make do with used spares and don't mind waiting then you could try here: EssexdafsWe don't have everything but we do have a lot of used spares and we recently shipped a lot of parts to Italy...

Dear friends,
I am pleased to announce that the Daf started!
I cleaned all the contacts, in particular with the points inside the distributor.
I walked in and started on the first try!
I 've also tried, the' car works well, I noticed that you have to push hard enough to brake the brake pedal .... It 's normal?
Thanks to all
Gianmarco

Well done - this is good!
Your brakes - compared to a modern car, then you will need a little more effort. That said, they should not need to be "stamped on" or need excessive pressing.
Perhaps you should check the brake fluid, pipes and pads... If the car hasn't been used for a long time, they can all deteriorate.

Hello Richard,
That 's what I thought. I want to drain and replace the 'oil in' braking system. However, by pushing the wheels lock. So the operation is correct.
thank you very much
